Exactly 50 years ago, at the historic moment of 11:30 a.m. on April 30, 1975, the tanks of the Liberation Army marched into the Independence Palace, the last stronghold of the Saigon puppet regime, marking a brilliant milestone in the history of the Vietnamese people's struggle against foreign invaders. The victory on April 30, 1975 is an immortal epic of the People's War in the Ho Chi Minh era, ending more than two decades of arduous and heroic resistance against the US to save the country by our people. This is a heroic page of history, continuing the glorious tradition of our people's struggle to build and defend the country over thousands of years.
The 4th National Party Congress affirmed the great stature and historical significance of this event: “Years will pass, but the victory of our people in the resistance war against the US to save the country will forever be recorded in our national history as one of the most brilliant pages, a shining symbol of the complete victory of revolutionary heroism and human intelligence, and will go down in world history as a great feat of the 20th century, an event of great international importance and profound epochal significance.”
The historical truth is obvious, no one can deny it. The international community shared the joy of victory with the Vietnamese people, considering it a common victory of peace and justice lovers around the world. However, there are still those who deliberately make excuses, fabricate, and deny the great victories that our people have won with their blood and indomitable will. One of the common distortions is to deny the righteousness of our people's resistance war against the US to save the country. They deliberately equate this war with a meaningless "civil war" or distort that the North "invaded" the South. This is a blatant distortion of history. The resistance war against the US to save the country was a just war, with a profound national liberation nature. It originated from the burning desire for independence, freedom, and national unification of the entire Vietnamese people, after many years of colonial domination and imperialist intervention. The 1954 Geneva Agreement was sabotaged by the Ngo Dinh Diem regime and foreign forces, pushing our country into a painful division. The struggle of the Southern People, under the leadership of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, was a continuation of the nation's indomitable tradition of struggle, aiming to exercise the sacred right of self-determination and unify the country.

The distorters also deliberately embellish and sanctify the Republic of Vietnam regime, considering it a “free and democratic country” and denying the oppression, injustice, and dependence on foreign powers that this regime caused to the people of the South. Historical facts have proven that the Republic of Vietnam government was a tool of neo-colonialism, relying on US aid and direction to suppress the patriotic movement and divide the nation. The brutal repressions and brutal prisons such as Con Dao and Phu Quoc are clear evidence of the anti-national nature of this regime.
Another wrong argument is to deliberately cause division, deepen the wounds of war, and exaggerate the losses of a part of the people in the South after the reunification day. We never deny the difficulties and losses that the war caused to both parts of the country. However, we need to look at it objectively, national reunification is the common aspiration of the entire nation, and is a prerequisite for building an independent, peaceful, unified, democratic and prosperous Vietnam. The policies of national harmony and reconciliation after 1975 have demonstrated the humane spirit, closing the past, and looking towards the future of our Party and State.
The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day is an opportunity for us to affirm the great historical value of this event. It was a victory of the will for independence, self-reliance, and the strength of national unity under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. This victory opened a new era for our nation, an era of independence, unity, and socialism. The great achievements that Vietnam has achieved over the past 50 years in all economic, political, cultural, and social fields are strong evidence of the path that our nation has chosen.
We need to heighten our vigilance, resolutely fight against all false arguments and historical distortions; protect the truth, protect the Party's ideological foundation and the nation's solidarity and unity. Every Vietnamese citizen needs to equip themselves with correct historical knowledge, spread the good values of the just resistance war, so that the younger generation can better understand the nation's glorious past and appreciate the achievements of today.
The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification is not only an occasion to remember the past, but also a motivation for us to work together to build an increasingly prosperous and happy future for Vietnam, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world powers, worthy of the noble sacrifices of previous generations. The strength of the Vietnamese people lies in solidarity, unity and passionate patriotism. Let us work together to maintain and promote that strength to build a powerful Vietnam!
