The remarkable development of the Vietnamese gaming industry and the human resource problem that needs to be solved
Báo Dân trí•27/02/2024
With great potential, the Vietnamese video game industry is expected to soon reach a revenue of 1 billion USD in the next 5 years. Accordingly, businesses and educational and training units are also focusing on developing human resources for the industry.
Games- one of eight key areas of Vietnam in the digital economy At the 2023 Vietnam Game Industry Forum held at the National Innovation Center (NIC) on October 31, digital transformation and the game industry were among eight key areas that helped Vietnam make breakthrough developments, contributing to the mentioned innovation model. It is no coincidence that the Vietnamese game industry has received such attention and investment. In 2022 alone, the revenue of the Vietnamese game industry reached more than 600 million USD, ranking 4th in Southeast Asia. With a large number of users (54.6 million players) and a growth rate of 9%/year - higher than the regional average (8.2%), Vietnam is considered by experts to be a potential market. Bloomberg news agency assessed Vietnam as a gaming powerhouse, in the top 5 countries producing mobile games in the world in terms of downloads in the first six months of 2023. The gaming industry is gradually proving its position in the overall picture of Vietnam. However, many experts say that the Vietnamese gaming industry is still far from the world's leading group when considering the criteria of complexity, quality of game feel, and graphics. It can be seen that this is an industry that needs more attention, including investment in training, to improve the expertise of the industry's human resources. Increasing investment in thegaming industry In addition to the Government's investment, training units are also actively solving this problem. In October 2023, representatives of British University Vietnam (BUV) and the National Innovation Center (NIC) exchanged a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation to develop the Vietnamese game industry, focusing on areas such as promoting knowledge exchange and learning, collaborating on research and innovation projects, and enhancing BUV's role in the NIC's technology game development ecosystem. At the event, BUV representatives also announced the decision to establish the BUVGamePad project - a Center for Innovation, Investment and Startup Incubation for Game Programming - Design - Graphics Projects. The project is expected to be a launching pad for young talents, attracting and training future industry leaders through a nurturing model and development orientation for young developers, programmers and designers.

Both training programs are awarded by Staffordshire University (UK) - the world's top 7 school in game design and development training, equipping students with a formal knowledge base and practical skills. In order to optimize practice efficiency, BUV also provides students with a learning environment like in a game studio, with modern facilities, carefully invested: computer room (Computer Lab) with a new version of high-configuration computers; game design and programming room (CGDP Room) equipped with a 27-inch computer screen, which can be customized in height and rotation to suit each usage need; Motion Capture Studio is equipped with a green screen, a motion capture suit for game programming, specialized cameras, virtual reality glasses - VR, etc. In addition, all bachelors of game program training at BUV are given the opportunity to participate in creative game development projects under the evaluation and guidance of lecturers and leading experts, helping you hone your practical skills and gain understanding of the actual game making process.

In the context of the game industry increasingly gaining a foothold, not only the Government, but also private units and training institutions are actively contributing to the overall development of the industry. When educational units take pioneering steps and invest methodically and thoroughly, young people will have more choices of prestigious training programs, joining the team of skilled personnel for the Vietnamese game industry in the near future.
