The 2025 university admissions plan will be announced soon.

To prepare for the first university entrance exam under the 2018 General Education Program, candidates and parents hope that universities will soon announce their admission plans so that they can proactively review and prepare for the application process.

At this time, high schools have completed their first semester final exams and are preparing for the 2025 high school graduation and university entrance exams. However, with many changes in the 2025 university entrance exam plan from the Ministry of Education and Training and the universities, candidates are understandably worried. For example, some universities have announced their projected admission plans with many adjustments and changes in quotas between different methods, opening new majors; and changing the subject combinations for admission.

The National Economics University plans to enroll students in 73 majors/programs with 89 training programs, and three main admission methods: high school graduation exam results, combined selection, and direct admission. Notably, for the method of considering high school graduation exam results, the university will consider four subject combinations: A00 (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Mathematics, Physics, English), D01 (Mathematics, Literature, English), and D07 (Mathematics, Chemistry, English). Compared to the 2024 admission period, the university has discontinued admission to some subject combinations.

The University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) is also adjusting its admission combinations. Instead of using the A00 (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) and D07 (Mathematics, Chemistry, English) combinations, it will use the two traditional combinations: A01 (Mathematics, Physics, English) and D01 (Mathematics, Literature, English). It will also add two new combinations: Mathematics, English, and Informatics; and Mathematics, English, and Economic and Legal Education. The university plans to allocate enrollment quotas for each method, including direct admission and priority direct admission (maximum 20% of the quota), admission based on aptitude test scores (maximum 40-60%), and admission based on high school graduation exam scores (maximum 30-50%).

With changes to the subject combinations for university admissions, 12th-grade students will have to carefully consider which subjects to choose for the 2025 high school graduation exam to align with their university application goals. This presents a significant challenge because from 2025 onwards, students will only take 4 subjects (2 compulsory and 2 elective), resulting in a substantial reduction in the number of subject combinations and less diversity compared to previous years. Admissions experts advise that to maximize their chances of admission, students should pay attention to the new regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training regarding the principles for constructing subject combinations for university admissions from 2025. Accordingly, subject combinations used for admission must include at least 3 subjects relevant to the characteristics and requirements of the training program, including either Mathematics or Literature. By understanding this principle, students can confidently study according to the subject combination they intend to register for in their university application. If you plan to register for the natural science group, don't neglect Math; if you prefer the social science group, you must do well in Literature.

In addition, some universities are adjusting their admission methods and quotas. For example, Hanoi University of Science and Technology plans to apply three admission methods: talent-based admission; admission based on the results of the aptitude test (expected to slightly increase the quota); and admission based on the results of the high school graduation exam (expected to reduce the quota from 50% to 40%). According to the university's plan for organizing the 2025 Aptitude Test (TSA), the exam will be held in three sessions on weekends, with 3-4 testing teams at 30 testing locations in each session. Therefore, candidates can proactively learn more about aptitude tests and certification exams to increase their chances of being admitted to their desired major and university.

One of the issues of concern for many candidates and parents is whether the method of considering academic transcripts will be applied by many schools as in 2024, and if so, what will the quotas for this method be? Since the Ministry of Education and Training has not yet announced the official admission regulations, schools and candidates are still waiting. However, according to Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), in recent years, students with average or weak academic transcripts have been able to apply and be admitted early to many schools. Furthermore, the methods used in the early admission process have long been disadvantageous and unfair to candidates who do not have the opportunity to participate in aptitude tests or possess foreign language certificates. Therefore, the draft regulations for university admissions in 2025 propose removing the concept of "early admission," thus eliminating early admissions altogether.
