In preparation for the first university entrance exam under the 2018 General Education Program, candidates and parents hope that schools will soon announce the university entrance exam plan so that they can proactively review and prepare for the application process.
At this time, high schools have completed the first semester final exams and are preparing to enter the review phase to prepare for the graduation exam and university entrance exam in 2025. However, with many innovations in the 2025 university entrance exam plan from the Ministry of Education and Training as well as schools, candidates cannot help but worry. For example, some schools have announced their expected enrollment plans with many adjustments, fluctuations in enrollment quotas between methods, opening new majors; changing the admission combination.
National Economics University plans to enroll 73 majors/programs with 89 training programs, and the 3 main admission methods are graduation exam results, combined admission and direct admission. Notably, with the method of considering high school graduation exam results, the school will enroll according to 4 groups, including A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English), D07 (Math, Chemistry, English). Compared to the 2024 admission period, the school has stopped enrolling some groups.
Also adjusting the admission combination, the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) will no longer consider admission using the combination A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry) and D07 (Math, Chemistry, English) but will use 2 traditional combinations: A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English); at the same time, adding 2 new combinations, including: Math, English, IT and Math, English, Economic and Legal Education. The school plans the enrollment quota for each method; including direct admission and priority direct admission (maximum 20% of the quota), considering the capacity assessment test score (maximum 40 - 60%) and the high school graduation exam score (maximum 30-50%).
With changes in admission combinations, 12th graders will have to consider the subjects they will choose in the 2025 high school graduation exam to suit their university admission orientation. This is a big challenge because from 2025, students will only take 4 graduation exams (including 2 compulsory subjects and 2 optional subjects), so the number of combinations is expected to decrease significantly and is no longer as diverse as in previous years. The advice of admission experts is that to maximize their chances of admission, students need to pay attention to the new regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training on the principles of building admission combinations from 2025. Accordingly, the subject combination used for admission includes at least 3 subjects suitable for the characteristics and requirements of the training program, including Math or Literature. Mastering this principle, students can rest assured to study according to the combination they plan to register for university admission. If you plan to register for the natural science group, don't neglect Math; if you love the social science group, you must definitely study Literature well.
In addition, there are also schools that have adjusted their admission methods and quotas, such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, which plans to apply 3 admission methods, including: talent assessment; considering the results of the thinking assessment exam (expected to increase the quota slightly); considering the results of the high school graduation exam (expected to reduce the quota from 50% to 40%). According to the plan to organize the Thinking Assessment (TSA) exam in 2025 announced by the school, the exam will be organized in 3 rounds on weekends, each round will have 3-4 testing teams at 30 testing locations. Thus, candidates can proactively learn more about the ability assessment exams, certificate exams, etc. to increase their chances of being admitted to their desired major and school.
One of the issues that many candidates and parents are concerned about is whether the method of considering academic records will be applied by many schools as in 2024 and if so, what will be the quota for this method? Because the Ministry of Education and Training has not yet announced the official admission regulations, schools and candidates are still waiting. However, according to the Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) Nguyen Thu Thuy, in reality, in recent years, students with average or poor academic records can also apply and be admitted early to many schools. Not to mention, the methods in the early admission round have long been disadvantageous and unfair to candidates who do not have the conditions to participate in competency assessment exams or have foreign language certificates... Therefore, in the draft of the 2025 university admission regulations, it is proposed to remove the concept of "early admission", from which the admission work will no longer include early admission.
