From December 13-16, 2024, many cultural, sports and tourism activities within the framework of the Vietnam Ethnic Culture Festival in Quang Tri province in 2024 will take place in Dong Ha city. This is not only a cultural event but also an opportunity for artisans, actors, and mass athletes of ethnic groups to exchange experiences, introduce the cultural beauty of their ethnic groups, spread pride and sense of responsibility in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in the integration period.

Gathering actors and artists of many generations
The highlight of the 2024 Vietnamese Ethnic Culture Festival in Quang Tri province is the opening ceremony taking place on the evening of December 14. All 16 delegations from 16 provinces and cities performed, introduced, and promoted local traditional culture through unique art performances, imbued with their own ethnic identity. What is special is that coming to Quang Tri on this festival, many generations of actors and artists from young to old expressed their excitement, giving their all to create a vibrant, colorful atmosphere.
Siu Trong, 8 years old, from the Gia Rai ethnic mass art troupe in Gia Lai province, said: “Since I was little, my grandparents and parents taught me how to play drums, beat gongs, and sing and dance to traditional folk songs. I am very happy to participate in the festival in Quang Tri, to perform with my uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters in the musical ensemble in the performance “Gia Lai enters the festival”.
Gia Lai is a mountainous province located in the North of the Central Highlands; it is home to the legendary Tonle Sap Lake and Chu Dang Ya volcano; the architectural arts of communal houses, stilt houses and long-standing traditional festivals. The space of gong culture in the Central Highlands, recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, always shines. Participating in this festival, 32 members of the Gia Rai ethnic mass art troupe all wish to spread the beauty of their ethnic culture to friends across the country.
Director Nguyen Cuong, in charge of the performance program of the Co Tu mass art troupe (Da Nang City), said that the troupe has 30 members of different ages. The Co Tu ethnic group is one of the ethnic groups rich in tradition and identity. With a small but united and resilient community, the Co Tu people not only preserve their long-standing values but also flexibly adapt to modern life, creating a unique highlight in the heart of the coastal city of Da Nang. The performance program of the Co Tu mass art troupe in Da Nang with the theme: "Colors of the mountains", includes a performance of traditional costumes; solo singing "Giao duyen"; folk musical instrument ensemble; "Mung Guol moi" choir; Excerpt from the folk dance "Tung tung - Da da (Dance to the sky)".
Artist Phan Tri, 65 years old, happily said: “This is the first time I have come to Quang Tri to participate in such a big and meaningful festival. The members of the troupe and I have prepared carefully in advance. Each sound, each dance step of ours tells a story, helping people to know about the Co Tu ethnic group - a strong and life-loving people”.
Throughout the 4 days of the festival, the groups of artists took turns participating in the mass art festival; performing traditional national costumes with many unique performances, elaborately staged with sublime and emotional performance styles. The participation of many actors and artists of all ages once again affirmed that the cultural achievements created over many generations are being continued, nurtured, and increasingly deepened and enriched. It is also a strong testament to the spirit of great solidarity, indomitable will, and aspiration to rise of the ethnic groups, creating a solid foundation for the people of all ethnic groups, together with the whole country, to make further efforts in the new era.
Unique content, rich form
With the theme "Preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Vietnamese ethnic groups with equality, solidarity, respect, integration and development for a peaceful world" and the participation of artisans, actors and athletes of ethnic groups, the festival took place with many activities in diverse forms such as: Mass art festival; Performance of traditional costumes of ethnic groups; Exhibition to introduce and promote local traditional culture; Tourism promotion activities and many other attractive activities contributing to introducing, promoting and spreading the traditional cultural values of Vietnamese ethnic groups to the people of the whole country and international friends.
The host Quang Tri's mass art troupe also added its own color, making the festival picture more colorful and vibrant. Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri Le Minh Tuan said that in the process of development, the ethnic groups in Quang Tri have formed their own cultural identities that also bear the common characteristics of the Vietnamese ethnic community. The Van Kieu and Pa Ko people in Quang Tri always pay attention to teaching, making and using musical instruments in their work, with folk songs, folk dances and folk music such as: caloi, chachap, oat, xa not, with the Arieuping Festival, the New Rice Celebration Festival...
The unique cultural identities have become standard lifestyles, good values that are preserved and passed down from generation to generation by the people. This is also an opportunity for the province to promote and introduce cultural tourism products of the land and people of Quang Tri to friends and domestic and foreign tourists, linking the work of preserving, conserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage with sustainable tourism development.
On the morning of December 14, the Organizing Committee of the festival opened the photo exhibition space "Ethnic minorities of Vietnam accompanying the development of the country"; an exhibition with nearly 200 photos introducing traditional ethnic culture, religious rituals, customs, traditional arts; tangible and intangible cultural heritages of the ethnic groups and especially some precious images of President Ho Chi Minh. Also at the Quang Tri Provincial Cultural - Cinema Center, the mass art program and traditional costume show attracted a large number of people and tourists to enjoy. Here, each troupe performed singing, dancing, and music with its own identity with many unique and eye-catching musical instruments such as gongs, gongs, festival drums, panpipes, trumpets and...
Previously, at Square B of the Quang Tri Province Cultural - Cinema Center, people and tourists had the opportunity to see performances recreating traditional rituals of ethnic groups such as: Arieu A Za worshiping ceremony of the Pa Ko people, New communal house worshiping ceremony of the Gia Rai people... In the traditional costume performance, the groups chose to introduce and perform traditional costumes of ethnic groups such as everyday costumes, festivals, weddings with many beautiful colors, unique materials bearing the appearance of mountains, forests, nature...
Within the framework of the festival, at the Quang Tri Province Multi-purpose Gymnasium, sports competitions in the following events took place: crossbow shooting, stick pushing, tug of war, and slingshot shooting with the participation of more than 260 athletes from 11 provinces and cities.
With good preparation in all aspects, the athletes confidently entered the competition determined to win. Athlete H Duel Nie KDam (Dak Lak) said: “I competed with all my might, overcame many strong opponents, and won the Gold Medal in the pole push, women's over 75 kg category. Coming to Quang Tri this time is a beautiful memory for me as I not only competed successfully but also immersed myself in the cultural festival atmosphere of the ethnic groups”.
