Exciting Contest "I love the sea and islands of my homeland" in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province

(ABO) On March 29, at the Vietsovpetro Cultural - Sports Center (Vung Tau City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province), the Command of Coast Guard Region 3 coordinated with the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province to organize the direct provincial round of the "I love my homeland's sea and islands" contest in 2025 - 2026 for students of secondary schools in coastal districts and cities of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province.

Lieutenant General Bui Quoc Oai, Party Secretary, Political Commissar of the Vietnam Coast Guard, along with representatives of leaders of agencies, units, localities, and a large number of teachers, students, and parents attended and cheered for the contest.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the contest, Colonel Le Van Tu, Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 3, emphasized: In recent years, along with successfully carrying out assigned political tasks, the Vietnam Coast Guard has always attached importance to the work of propagating the sea and islands to the young generation, especially students, in many rich and vivid forms. Notably, the "I love my homeland's sea and islands" contests were held in 35 provinces and cities, with more than 100,000 students directly participating in the contest.

The contest has truly become an activity with profound educational and political significance; a useful playground, attracting a large number of students, teachers and companions to actively respond and participate; arousing students' passion for learning, raising awareness and responsibility for the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland; highly appreciated by Party committees and authorities at all levels.

Promoting the effectiveness of the contest model, on September 3, 2024, the Minister of National Defense signed Decision No. 3934/QD-BQP approving the Project to organize the Contest "I love my homeland's sea and islands" nationwide for the period 2024 - 2030 and the following years. Accordingly, the Command of Coast Guard Region 3 was assigned by the Project Steering Committee to coordinate with functional agencies in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, directly the Department of Education and Training of the province to organize a pilot contest to gain experience for the effective implementation of the Project in the coming time.

In the provincial live round of the contest, the 100 best contestants surpassed more than 42,000 contestants in round 1 - the online round (taking place from March 19 to 26) to compete in the form of Golden Bell, direct confrontation, with 4 attractive competitions, including: "Going out to sea", "Crossing the waves", "Arriving at the dock" and "Setting sovereignty milestones". The students showed confidence, showed careful preparation, solid knowledge foundation and brought to the contest exciting and dramatic competitions.

Students participated in answering multiple-choice questions, focusing on basic knowledge about Vietnam's seas and islands; the People's Army and the Vietnam Coast Guard; Vietnam's Law on the Sea; Vietnam Coast Guard Law; regulations on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; and knowledge about local historical, cultural and geographical traditions.

As a result, contestant Hua Bao Tran, grade 8-5 , Nguyen An Ninh Secondary School, Vung Tau City, excelled over 99 contestants to win First Prize in the provincial direct competition round. The Organizing Committee also awarded 20 Second, Third, and Encouragement prizes to outstanding contestants.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee awarded 20 bicycles and 50 Vu A Dinh scholarships (worth 1 million VND/scholarship) to students with difficult circumstances who have strived to excel in their studies.

After the competition in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the best candidates will be selected to participate in the regional competition in Military Region 7, held in March 2026.
