SODI supports sustainable livelihoods for people in A Luoi district

The People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province has just issued Decision No. 3144/QD-UBND dated December 9, 2024 to receive non-refundable aid worth VND 9.7 billion from the project "Enhancing the role of ethnic minority women through ecosystem transformation and sustainable livelihood activities in A Luoi district" sponsored by Solidaritatsdienst International (SODI-Germany).

The project aims to raise the community's capacity and awareness of climate change and environmental protection, including the following activities: 300 students are expected to participate in a drawing contest; 75 students will participate in a photo storytelling contest on forest protection; training to raise awareness for 120 community members on environmental protection; printing 300 posters to promote environmental protection.

The sustainable economic activity of the project is to plant 18,000 banana trees on an area of ​​30 hectares in 03 communes: Hong Kim, Hong Thai, Quang Nham of A Luoi district - (Photo: www.thuathienhue.gov.vn).

Along with that, encourage environmental protection measures, including activities: Planting 20,000 bamboo trees in Quang Nham, Hong Kim and Hong Thai communes; installing lighting systems, including lamp posts and solar lights with a length of 2km/commune for 03 communes: Hong Kim, Hong Thai, Quang Nham.

The project also implements sustainable economic activities, including: Planting 18,000 banana trees on an area of ​​30 hectares in 03 communes: Hong Kim, Hong Thai, Quang Nham; providing equipment, machinery and training courses to develop handicraft products from banana trunks.

The project implementation also aims to contribute to improving and enhancing the economic conditions and social knowledge of rural people and ethnic minority women through environmental education and income-generating activities in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province.

SODI was established in 1990. In Vietnam, SODI focuses on activities such as: Bomb and mine clearance, Providing medical equipment, Disaster relief; Vocational training, Agriculture, Water and sanitation. The aim is to help people exercise their basic human rights, especially in rural areas, the target groups are ethnic minority women and their families.
