In the past 5 years, in Soc Trang province, natural disasters have caused damage to houses, property and agricultural production, specifically: natural disasters have killed and injured 25 people; 1,230 houses collapsed and had their roofs blown off, 1,239 hectares of fruit trees were damaged, 46,107 hectares of rice, 939 hectares of vegetables, 601 hectares of aquatic products, 64,233m of riverbank, embankment, dyke, and sea dyke landslides, 177,811m of overflow. The province has supported to overcome the damage caused by natural disasters, with an amount of more than 22.3 billion VND.

To respond to and minimize damage caused by natural disasters, the province has developed response plans for each type. Every year, the province organizes a conference to summarize the work of natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue to evaluate experiences and deploy a number of key tasks for the following year. Invest in repairing culverts, building dykes, dredging intra-field canals according to the approved plan; reinforce dykes in Cu Lao Dung area, sandbanks on Hau River; dredge canals to create fresh water sources to overcome drought and salinity in Thanh Tri, My Tu, Chau Thanh districts, Nga Nam town. Comrade Vuong Quoc Nam praised and highly appreciated the departments, branches and localities for effectively implementing Directive No. 42-CT/TW in the province. Thereby, he requested the departments, branches and localities to continue to thoroughly implement Directive No. 42-CT/TW to raise people's awareness of natural disaster prevention, control and response; develop specific plans for types of natural disaster prevention and control, suitable to the characteristics of each locality; promptly notify and warn people of natural disasters.
