Since the beginning of the year, nearly 1.1 million people nationwide have withdrawn social insurance at one time, a decrease of 7,599 people compared to the same period in 2023.
According to the Vietnam Social Security, as of November 4, the country had 19.365 million people participating in social insurance (SI), an increase of 11.39% over the same period in 2023. Of which, 17.281 million people participated in compulsory SI (an increase of 8.3%), 2.084 million people participated in voluntary SI, an increase of 45.8%.
The number of people participating in unemployment insurance reached 15.56 million, an increase of 9.2% over the same period in 2023.
Regarding social insurance and unemployment insurance, nationwide, 78,746 people receive monthly benefits; nearly 5.5 million people receive sick leave benefits; more than 1.25 million people receive maternity benefits; and more than 773,000 people receive unemployment benefits.
Notably, the number of people withdrawing social insurance at one time has decreased significantly, with nearly 1.1 million people nationwide receiving this regime, a decrease of 7,599 people compared to the same period in 2023.
General Director of Vietnam Social Security Nguyen The Manh said that since the beginning of the year, the coverage of social insurance, especially voluntary social insurance, has increased. In particular, the sharp decrease in the number of people receiving one-time social insurance shows that the trust of people, workers, and businesses in social insurance policies has increased.
According to a labor and salary expert, the Social Insurance Law 2024 (effective from July 1, 2025) stipulates that the social insurance payment period will be reduced from 20 years to 15 years to receive pension when retiring, which will have a big impact on employees who intend to withdraw social insurance at one time.
"The new law stipulates that the time to pay social insurance to receive pension is reduced by 5 years compared to the current law, so many workers, despite difficulties, still consider not withdrawing so that they can have pension when they retire," said the expert.
It is known that Vietnam Social Security is currently managing and paying pensions and monthly social insurance benefits to more than 3.3 million people. With the number of people withdrawing social insurance at one time decreasing significantly, the number of people receiving pensions will increase.
