BTO-On the morning of October 23 in Phan Thiet City, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province to organize a conference "Reviewing crop production in 2024; implementing the 2025 plan for the Southeast, South Central Coast, Central Highlands regions and disseminating Decree 112/2024/ND-CP detailing regulations on rice-growing land".

The conference was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung; Vice Chairman of Binh Thuan Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai; Director of the Department of Crop Production Nguyen Nhu Cuong.

Attending the conference were representatives of leaders of provinces in the South Central Coast, Central Highlands, and Southeast regions; businesses, associations, international organizations, and leaders of relevant departments, branches, and People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities of Binh Thuan province.

According to the report of the Department of Crop Production, the region's rice production in 2024 is estimated at 1,030 thousand hectares, with an estimated yield of 60.48 quintals/ha, an increase of 0.37 quintals/ha and an estimated output of 6,229 thousand tons, an increase of 15.6 thousand tons compared to 2023. In particular, short-term industrial crops and crops have always been given attention and direction for development by the provinces in the region, making an important contribution to the crop structure. In addition, gradually perfecting cultivation techniques, preliminary processing, storage, preservation, transportation... to ensure food hygiene and safety contributes to increasing value and profits...

In Binh Thuan alone, in 2024, the total cultivated area of ​​the province will be 308,438 hectares, reaching 100.83% of the plan. The province has promoted and formed a number of high-tech agricultural production areas, large specialized areas, and value chain production. Of which, the total cultivated area of ​​rice in the province is 127,227 hectares, reaching 103.20% of the plan, the estimated output is 784,107 tons, reaching 101.57% of the plan, the average yield is 61.6 quintals/ha.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of Binh Thuan Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai said that the conference held in Binh Thuan is an opportunity for the province to connect the consumption of typical products, advantages of OCOP products, typical rural industrial products to distribution systems, supermarkets, trade centers, and wholesale markets of provinces in the region.

Binh Thuan wishes to cooperate with other provinces to promote sustainable agricultural development, especially the application of high technology. In the coming time, the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee hope that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the provinces will continue to pay attention, support and create favorable conditions for the development of Binh Thuan's agriculture and rural development, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.

At the conference, delegates also expressed their opinions and discussed issues related to the implementation of appropriate production plans, response to drought; pest situation and solutions for pest management on crops. Along with that, the current situation and orientation of pesticide management, fertilizers and growing area codes were clearly stated.

Concluding the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Trung highly appreciated the production direction of the provinces, departments, and the efforts of farmers, production and business enterprises in the field of cultivation. These are the decisive factors that create results in crop production in 2024 in the region. At the same time, he said that in 2024, unusual weather phenomena, drought, and saltwater intrusion will continue to be complicated.

Therefore, to ensure safety and achieve high efficiency for the production crops in 2025, units under the Ministry and localities must ensure that the remaining winter-spring rice area needs to be effectively implemented, develop production plans for each locality, in accordance with weather forecasts and water resources; develop realistic plans, ensuring productivity and quality...

Strictly comply with the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop production plan of the region. Along with that, promote the linkage of crop production according to the chain, production associated with product consumption contracts. Closely monitor the weather situation, regulate water resources flexibly and reasonably. At the same time, review the supply resources of plant varieties, fertilizers, pesticides to ensure quality... to meet farmers' needs and strengthen inspection, supervision, and strictly handle cases of trading in counterfeit and poor quality goods.

The leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested localities to strengthen monitoring, evaluation, inspection, and examination of codes for growing areas and packaging facilities for export and domestic use. Continue to disseminate, propagate, and organize the effective implementation of Decree 112/2024/ND-CP detailing rice-growing land and other guiding documents of the Land Law related to the field of cultivation...
