Summary of 5 years of implementing Directive No. 42-CT/TW of the Secretariat on prevention, control and overcoming consequences of natural disasters

On the morning of April 23, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong chaired the Conference to review 5 years of implementing Directive No. 42 dated March 24, 2020 of the Central Party Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in the work of preventing, responding to, and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and summarizing the work of natural disaster prevention, search and rescue in 2024, deploying tasks in 2025; summarizing the emulation movement "Proactively preventing natural disasters, building safe communities" for the period 2021 - 2025.

In the period from 2020 to 2025, to implement the Law on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the Law on Dikes, the Law on Irrigation, the People's Council and the People's Committee of the city have developed and issued 04 Resolutions, 03 Projects and Decisions to implement activities of natural disaster prevention, response and overcoming consequences. Direct , inspect and supervise the integration of natural disaster prevention, response and overcoming consequences into planning, plans and development strategies of sectors and localities in the direction of combining multiple objectives, minimizing the increase in natural disaster risks. The city also allocates capital for projects on natural disaster prevention, response and overcoming consequences, specifically allocating capital for the fields of agriculture, forestry, irrigation and fishery with more than 1,260 billion VND; spending more than 63 billion VND from the Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Fund to implement natural disaster prevention and overcoming consequences. Approved support and implemented support for relocation to avoid natural disaster areas and annual resettlement of residents.

In 2024 alone, the city was affected by 3 storms, 8 heavy rains, 14 cold spells and 10 widespread heat waves. However, the damage caused by natural disasters in Da Nang city in 2024 was lower than in previous years. This result is thanks to the proactive work of preventing, responding to and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters that has been deployed quickly, promptly and effectively with the synchronous participation from the Central to the city and each locality, thereby contributing to minimizing damage, stabilizing people's lives, restoring production,... after natural disasters. This is also the basis for the Conference to exchange, discuss, and contribute to orienting tasks and solutions for preventing, responding to and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in 2025 and the coming years./.
