Mr. Nguyen Quy Trang, Deputy Head of the Education and Training Department of Nam Tu Liem District, said that the drowning was caused by rising tides. The area where the students were on their field trip was a sandy beach, so when the water rose and the current changed, many students sank and were swept away. People on the boat threw life jackets down to help parents rescue the students. One parent – the group leader – swam out to save a male student but was unsuccessful; both were swept away by the water.

The Department of Education and Training of Nam Tu Liem District is working with the school and providing timely support to the victim's family.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Manh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Giao Thien commune (Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province), said that the authorities have temporarily suspended tourist activities at Xuan Thuy National Park following the incident in which a parent and student died. The national park will reopen once the district People's Committee makes a decision.

According to Mr. Manh, most tourist groups come here by contacting the boat owners directly to provide sightseeing and experiential services, without notifying the management board. " These boats are allowed to operate. Tourists usually search for information online, contact them, and sign contracts," the commune leader said.
