Assessment scope: Reading and writing requirements in the 2018 General Education Program for secondary school level, mainly grades 8 and 9.
Reading Comprehension
- Source: Non-textbook materials
- Text type: Literary text and one of two types: Argumentative text or informational text
- Length: Total length of test materials is not more than 1,300 words.
Write
a) Write a paragraph (about 200 words). One of the two following requirements must be met:
- Write a paragraph about your feelings about a poem or a poem passage.
- Write a paragraph analyzing the content, the unique features of the work's artistic form, and its aesthetic effect.
b) Write an essay. One of the following two requirements must be met:
- Write an argumentative essay on a life issue, clearly presenting the issue and the writer's opinion (agree or disagree) on that issue; providing convincing arguments and evidence.
- Write an essay on a problem that needs to be solved; present a feasible and convincing solution.

The Department of Education and Training also noted that the exam includes a question about Vietnamese in the reading comprehension section of literary texts.

Grade 9 students will take the 10th grade entrance exam this year under the new program.

Structure and orientation of 10th grade math exam
Scope of assessment: The 2018 General Education Program for Secondary School Mathematics includes the following knowledge streams: Geometry and Measurement; Numbers and Algebra; Statistics and Probability.
The test content aims to assess mathematical abilities: Mathematical thinking and reasoning; mathematical problem solving; mathematical modeling.
Assessment orientation: Students know how to apply learned knowledge to solve practical problems. Encourage self-study and creativity, avoid rote learning.
The assessment test content aims to help students orient themselves towards some necessary knowledge and skills when entering high school.

Structure and orientation of grade 10 English exam
The assessment of language competence is not only based on students' knowledge of grammar and vocabulary; it requires assessing their ability to understand and apply language knowledge in appropriate contexts, especially real-life situations.
Changing the assessment method needs to be synchronized with the use of appropriate teaching materials, changing the way of teaching and learning English from mainly using Grammar Translation or Direct Method to combining with Communicative Approach and applying language to practical situations.
Target assessment at specific language skills, specific goals for each knowledge stream.
Scope of evaluation:
Phonetics: How to pronounce basic vowels and consonants; How to place word stress correctly; Vocabulary and grammar: Diverse types of vocabulary and word semantics according to the program framework; Grammar points according to the program framework
Communication, relating to real situations the ability to understand and respond to simple situations of real language.
Reading comprehension: Read a 180-200 word text and find information; Read and fill in the blanks of a 80-100 word text.
Writing: Write correct word form to complete meaningful sentences; Write simple sentences based on given information; Write sentences using grammatical structure and word combination skills.
