Department of Industry and Trade trains new points of the Law on Consumer Protection

On the afternoon of March 14, in Vinh city, the Department of Industry and Trade held a conference to disseminate new points of the Law on Consumer Rights Protection in 2023. Participating in the training course were provincial departments and branches; district-level specialized departments and enterprises, cooperatives, production and business establishments in the province.

Vietnam is one of the countries that participated early and proactively in consumer rights protection activities on a global scale. In 1999, the State issued the first basic legal document for consumer rights protection activities in Vietnam. Subsequently, the law has been amended and supplemented many times.

Currently, in the context of many changes in technology domestically and internationally, Vietnam's international integration process, the implementation of the Law on Consumer Protection has encountered many difficulties and inadequacies, some regulations are no longer suitable for reality... In response to that issue, on June 20, 2023, the National Assembly voted to pass the Law on Consumer Protection 2023 (amended) effective from July 1, 2024.

At the training course, trainees were informed of the contents of the Law on Consumer Rights Protection 2023. Accordingly, with 7 chapters and 80 articles, the Law has more clearly defined consumer rights; Adding 1 chapter (Chapter III) on the responsibilities of business organizations and individuals towards consumers in specific transactions, the number of articles increased from 51 to 80.

Accordingly, the law has a number of new provisions on applicable subjects; rights and obligations of consumers; sustainable production and consumption; protection of vulnerable consumer rights; prohibited acts; responsibilities of business organizations and individuals towards consumers; a number of specific transactions; consumer rights protection activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations and social organizations; dispute resolution methods; State management of consumer rights protection.

At the training conference, the trainees also absorbed the contents reported by the experts, and at the same time, actively and proactively exchanged and discussed to clarify issues on the Law on Consumer Protection; contributing their dedicated opinions to effectively put the law into practice.
