TEMPO. The Indonesian Navy has received delivery of a maritime security patrol vessel (Patkamla) named Yapero, which was designed and built entirely domestically.

PTI. India will resume some visa services in Canada from October 26, a move seen as a possible de-escalation of tensions between the two countries over the killing of a Canadian Sikh separatist leader.

DAWN. Over the past week, Pakistan's Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized more than 1.6 tonnes of drugs and arrested nearly 90 people in connection with the operation.

CHINA DAILY. China and Colombia upgraded their diplomatic relations to a strategic partnership during Colombian President Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego's state visit to Beijing.

Xinhua News Agency. The interests of China and the United States are closely intertwined, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed at a meeting with California Governor Gavin Newsom in Beijing on October 25.

KYODO. Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko is considering a visit to Israel, amid escalating tensions between the Jewish state and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.

ANADOLU. During a telephone conversation, the leaders of Germany and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) discussed the situation in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Europe

AFP. Slovak President Zuzana Caputova appointed Robert Fico as the new prime minister, after the Social Democratic Orientation Party (Smer-SD) won the general election on September 30 and formed a coalition with two other parties.

LE PAIS. Spanish authorities have seized more than eight tonnes of cannabis in Ibiza in what is being described as the biggest drug bust ever in the Balearic Islands.

DW. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has pledged to increase penalties for human traffickers in an effort to tackle illegal migration.

AFP. Iceland's Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir and tens of thousands of Icelandic women launched a 24-hour strike to protest gender inequality in the country.

BBC. British experts have discovered the first case of bird flu in Antarctica, raising concerns that the highly pathogenic virus could pose a threat to penguins and other animals there.

FRANCE24. Humanitarian aid must be delivered to the Gaza Strip without hindrance, French President Emmanuel Macron said at a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo.

America

CNN. Republican Congressman Mike Johnson of Louisiana was elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives, ending a crisis in the House that had been without a leader for 22 days.

The US and South Korean militaries conduct a multi-domain special operations combined exercise to enhance interoperability, taking place at sea, in the air and on land.

BLOOMBERG. More than 40 US states have accused Facebook and Instagram's parent company, Meta, of harming children's mental health and misleading users about the safety of the platforms.

CNBC. Israelis must have security, while Palestinians need to be given better opportunities, said Jared Kushner , former White House Senior Advisor under US President Donald Trump.

Africa

EAST AFRICAN. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said North Korea will close its embassy in Uganda, ending half a century of diplomatic presence in the African country.

AFP. The Sudanese army has agreed to send a delegation to the Saudi city of Jeddah to finalise talks with the paramilitary Rapid Response Forces (RSF) after six months of fighting.

CREA. More than 15,000 people could die by 2050 from air pollution -related conditions if South Africa delays its plan to phase out coal-fired power plants until after 2030.

NEWS24. South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) announced that a total of 543 workers have been held hostage at the Gold One Mine, east of Johannesburg, since October 22.

AFRICA NEWS. Liberia's electoral commission plans to hold a second round of presidential elections in November, after the first round of voting showed that the two leading candidates did not have enough votes to win.

MEDAFRICA TIMES. The Kenyan Supreme Court has extended an injunction barring the government from deploying police to Haiti as part of a UN-backed peace mission to help stabilize the situation in the Caribbean nation.

AFP. During operations that took place from October 15 to 21, the Tunisian coast guard rescued 2,663 illegal migrants from sinking boats.

Oceania

THE AUSTRALIAN. The Australian government has confirmed it will deploy equipment worth a total of AU$20 million (US$13 million) in additional military aid to Ukraine.

“We are pleased to announce that Australia will provide an additional $20 million in defence assistance to Ukraine in the form of improved, locally manufactured industrial equipment.” (Prime Minister Anthony Albanese)

ABC. The Australian government has announced plans to inject an additional 2 billion AUD (about 1.3 billion USD) into the budget to fund the exploitation of important minerals.

SBS. Hundreds of firefighters are battling to extinguish bushfires in the eastern Australian state of Queensland, as soaring temperatures and strong winds make conditions worse.
