At the event, Mr. Scott James - Consul General and Commercial Counselor, Consulate General of New Zealand in Ho Chi Minh City - informed that in 2023, the number of Vietnamese students enrolled will increase by 10% to a total of 1,736 students.
Of these, the secondary sector saw the strongest growth, up 31% to 308 students. The university sector continued to be the mainstay, increasing 7% to a 10-year high of 1,120 students.
According to Mr. Scott James, not only has the number of enrolments increased, 75% of Vietnamese students participating in the annual learner experience survey conducted by Education New Zealand rated their overall experience in New Zealand positively.
Educational experiences and the opportunity to meet new people and develop special relationships were particularly appreciated, with 84% of survey respondents rating them positively.
Giving advice to students who intend to study abroad in New Zealand, Mr. Scott James said that they should not only consider their study abroad time as an opportunity to acquire knowledge, but also to practice skills and develop themselves as individuals.
“Learn to collaborate, adapt, be open and curious. Learn from cultures and become a better version of yourself,” said Scott James.
Mr. Ben Burrowes - acting executive director of international, Education New Zealand (ENZ) - said that in the context of many countries making changes to visa policies for international students, New Zealand is expected to propose to keep the current policies.
The positive signal from that is that more students and study abroad units are interested in studying abroad in New Zealand.
According to Mr. Ben Burrowes, basically the immigration agency still has to maintain a balance between demand and reception capacity in the process of processing student visa applications to New Zealand. However, currently, Vietnamese students are always interested and given many conditions to study in New Zealand.
