Students with IELTS 7.5 still have to pay for English classes: School speaks out

(Dan Tri) - According to the University of Transport in Ho Chi Minh City, regarding the school's English program, students must achieve a specialized level of English to be able to study.

In recent days, many students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport have reported that the school does not accept IELTS certificates. Many students with IELTS certificates of 7-7.5 are still required by the school to study the English program taught by the school with a fee.

Talking to Dan Tri reporter on the morning of December 7 about the school's English program, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, said that students must have a level of specialized English to study.

Many of the school's specific majors require specialized English proficiency such as maritime, transportation logistics... In particular, the school's training program integrates international certificates FIATA, IATA, so these organizations require very high specialized English.

For the automotive engineering industry, the school is affiliated with VINFAST, THACO ... so it requires very high specialized English to be able to access new technology when participating in the business semester.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan informed that all students are assessed by the school for their English proficiency upon entry, and from there, they are arranged into classes corresponding to their level.

For example, in 2024, the entrance assessment results showed that many students achieved the general English level (level 4/5), so students only studied the last part, English for the transportation industry.

For students with international certificates, students present them to the school to assess their level of specialized English learning.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan also explained that teaching the English program at the school is to ensure quality, avoiding cases where students are scammed by outside groups and given fake certificates, which has been happening for many years.

Besides, the school also applies the lowest tuition fee possible to create the best possible conditions for students, the tuition fee for each English course is also much lower than outside.

From the 2024 course, the school adjusted the English program to include 5 levels for both the standard and advanced systems, instead of the previous 8 levels for the standard system and 6 levels for the advanced system. In fact, the total tuition fee has not changed, in order to create conditions for students to complete the English program faster to access professional knowledge early, as well as shorten the study time at school.

However, for specific majors such as maritime; traffic construction engineering; environmental engineering (standard system), tuition fees are lower than those of the advanced system, due to differences in facilities, lecturers, programs, etc.

The school commits that this fee will not change for 3 consecutive years as the tuition fee applied to each enrollment course.

The school representative affirmed that all regulations are publicly announced and disseminated to the school's students.
