Singapore will continue to support Vietnam in improving the quality of human resources, while continuing to promote typical cooperation models such as the Vietnam-Singapore industrial park.
According to VNA special correspondent, on the morning of December 3, within the framework of his official visit to Singapore, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam emphasized that the official visit to Singapore by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man is an important activity, right before the major holidays of the two countries in 2025, contributing to the increasingly strong and practical development of the bilateral relationship; congratulated the Vietnamese National Assembly for standing side by side with the Government to make the right decisions, helping to achieve many great achievements in socio-economic development, with a high GDP growth rate.
The President of Singapore respectfully requested the Chairman of the National Assembly to convey an invitation to General Secretary To Lam to visit Singapore at a suitable time.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his joy at his first official visit to Singapore in his new position; thanked President Tharman Shanmugaratnam for spending time with the delegation and respectfully sent warm regards from General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the President and looked forward to welcoming the President to visit Vietnam in the near future.
Congratulating Singapore on maintaining positive growth momentum and having many correct policies to support its people, especially those with low incomes, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his belief that Singapore will successfully build a country that is “dynamic and inclusive, fair and competitive, resilient and united,” and an inclusive and multi-ethnic society.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man shared with the Singaporean President the results of the talks between the two National Assembly Chairmen, including major orientations and measures to promote cooperation between the two countries and between the two parliaments in particular in all fields of politics-diplomacy, security-defense, economy-trade, education-training, cultural exchange, people-to-people exchange and local connection.
Highlighting the President's leadership role, the National Assembly Chairman asked President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to support the effective implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between the two National Assemblies signed in 2022, contributing to making cooperation between the two countries' legislative bodies one of the important cooperation channels of the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Partnership, creating a premise for upgrading relations in the coming time.
Discussing issues of interest to Vietnam and Singapore's strengths, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that Singapore and the President personally pay attention to promoting the implementation of the Agreement on the Training Program for mid- and high-ranking officials of the Communist Party of Vietnam in Singapore for the 2024-2026 period; increase the number of scholarships at all levels for Vietnam; and expand programs such as Governance for Leaders and Potential Leaders to other levels of Vietnamese officials.
Agreeing with the proposal of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the President of Singapore affirmed that Singapore will continue to support Vietnam in improving the quality of human resources, and at the same time suggested that the two sides continue to promote typical cooperation models such as the Vietnam-Singapore industrial park; further exploit cooperation opportunities in new areas such as digital transformation, carbon credit market; strengthen energy cooperation, connect power grids, including the ASEAN power grid, accelerate the project of Sembcorp Group with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Technical Services Corporation (PTSC); enhance cooperation, cultural exchange and tourism.
The two leaders affirmed that they will continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association and people of the two countries to live and work, contribute to each other's socio-economic development, and promote their role as a bridge for the friendly relations between the two countries.
Discussing issues of mutual concern and cooperation at multilateral mechanisms, the two leaders agreed that the two countries will continue to closely coordinate at regional and international multilateral forums and organizations such as the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC and parliamentary forums, etc.; emphasizing ASEAN's consistent stance on resolving disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to ensure a stable environment and sustainable development in the region./.
