On July 12, during a visit to the egg factory of Ba Huan Company (Long An), Mr. Abdul Jalil Kader, deputy director of the Singapore Food Authority, said that the demand for fresh food and eggs in Singapore is very large, so he wants to learn and consider promoting the import of fresh eggs and meat from Vietnam.
“After working with many production and breeding units, we realized that there is great potential and very positive in exporting meat and eggs from Vietnam to Singapore. However, to promote the project effectively, we need support from state agencies, especially in the management and quality assessment,” said Mr. Abdul Jalil Kader.
At the meeting, Mr. Cao Xuan Thang - Commercial Counselor, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore - said that the delegation of the Singapore Food Authority surveyed and worked with many businesses to promote imports, especially focusing on items that have not been officially exported from Vietnam such as chicken, pork, and fresh eggs.
According to Mr. Thang, accessing the Singapore market is not only about exporting to the 6 million people of this country, but we also aim to see Singapore as a fulcrum for exporting to other countries.
“Singapore is the center and trade bridge of the region and the world. If we can access this market well, it will be easier for Vietnamese meat and egg products to be exported to other countries. However, Singapore is a rather demanding market. To take advantage of this opportunity, we still have a lot of work to do,” said Mr. Thang.
Meanwhile, a representative of Ba Huan Company said that it has exported and is promoting the export of fresh chicken eggs and processed poultry eggs to many markets such as Hong Kong, Cambodia, etc.
However, exporting to Singapore, if implemented, will be a positive turning point in improving production capacity and business reputation.
According to information from the agricultural sector, in the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam was the largest rice exporter to Singapore; meanwhile, seafood ranked 5th among countries exporting to this country.
