Singapore's Ministry of Education plans to double the number of scholarships for outstanding Vietnamese high school students, according to the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training.
On the morning of August 28, Vietnamese Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son and Singaporean Minister of Education Chun Chun Sing signed a Memorandum of Understanding on educational cooperation.
The two countries will strengthen cooperation between schools, through school twinning programs and other educational institution linkages to encourage student and teacher exchanges.
In addition, the two sides will facilitate students to participate in internship programs; exchange information and lessons learned, with special attention to professional development for teachers. The two ministries will also strive to promote and provide scholarship opportunities for students and other areas of cooperation.
According to the International Cooperation Department, the above contents were raised in a group meeting in June between the two countries' Ministries of Education. Here, Singapore announced that it would increase scholarships for excellent Vietnamese high school students to study at the country's top high schools. It is expected that the number of scholarships could double compared to previous years.

The Singapore Ministry of Education Scholarship (Asean Scholarship) for secondary school students (from Grade 8 to Grade 10) usually accepts applications in February every year. If passing this round, candidates will participate in a Writing round with three subjects: Math, English and an IQ test. Finally, there is an interview round to select the best candidates.
This is considered the most prestigious scholarship for secondary school students. Successful candidates will study two years of secondary school and two years of pre-university at schools designated by the Singapore government. The scholarship includes an annual living allowance, dormitory accommodation, initial settlement allowance, tuition and examination fees for GCE O-Level and GCE A-Level (Singapore Secondary and High School Leaving Certificate examinations), medical benefits and accident insurance.
Currently, about 20 Vietnamese high school students receive this scholarship each year.
