On October 12, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province announced that it had just signed a decision to administratively fine Hung Cuong Retail Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company (located in Quang Ngai City) VND 215 million for discharging waste into the environment exceeding standards.

Previously, the Department of Investigation Police on Crimes of Corruption, Economy, Smuggling, and Environment, Quang Ngai Provincial Police discovered that Hung Cuong Big C Trade Center and Supermarket under Hung Cuong Retail Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company violated two regulations on environmental protection.
Specifically, this company discharged wastewater into the environment exceeding technical standards on waste, in which the biological oxygen demand parameter BOD5 (20°C) exceeded the technical standards on waste by 5.93 times; the total suspended solids parameter (TSS) exceeded the technical standards on waste by 3.52 times; and the total coliforms parameter exceeded the technical standards on waste by 2.63 times.
Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee also requested Hung Cuong Retail Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company to remedy the environmental pollution; return illegal profits due to administrative acts of not conducting waste monitoring during project operation; and pay fees for requesting appraisal and analysis of waste samples exceeding environmental technical standards.
