The app store is a vital factor that determines the success or failure of Vision Pro.

With a starting price of $3,499, the Vision Pro augmented reality headset deserves to be considered a technological masterpiece and has high expectations from Apple .

However, the product is facing its first challenges as some of the world's leading app developers have announced that they will not adapt the app to suit the needs of Vision Pro users on their platforms. A series of famous brands listed by Bloomberg include Google, Meta, Netflix, YouTube and Spotify.

Apple has previously said that by the time Vision Pro hits the market, more than 1 million apps will be available to support the new device. However, according to Bloomberg, the majority of apps, including Apple-branded software, are not expected to be natively optimized for VisionOS, but rather modified from iPadOS. At least that’s true for basic apps like podcasts, news, calendars, and reminders.

Although the first batch of around 80,000 Vision Pro units were sold out within hours of going on sale, it was still modest by Apple's usual product release standards.

Even if Apple sells 300-400 thousand Vision Pro products in 2024, that still won't be enough to attract app developers.

Third-party app developers are not ready to invest in native solutions for VisionOS and want to evaluate sales results for Apple's new product.

Among major app developers, only Microsoft, Zoom, Box, and Slack are ready to support Vision Pro from the moment the product launches.

However, the absence of top app developers will limit Vision Pro's ability to gain popularity and appeal to consumers.

The most important thing Apple needs to do at the moment is to convince developers to create more apps for its new device, especially converting 2D app windows to 3D to fit the glasses. The app store is considered a vital factor that can decide the success or failure of Vision Pro.

It is not yet clear when Apple will sell Vision Pro in Vietnam, but the product is expected to have a starting price of 80 million VND or more.
