Mr. Djuric made the statement at a meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in Austria.

Foreign Minister Djuric affirmed that Serbia shares and values European values, as well as wishes to contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Referring to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, Mr. Djuric stated: "Belgrade is fully committed to dialogue with Pristina under the auspices of the EU. At the present time, the most important task is to ensure the safety of the Serbian people and there must be no further delays in the implementation of all obligations from the agreements reached."

The Serbian government has been a candidate for EU membership since 2012.

In April 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron stressed his support for Serbia joining the 27-member bloc.

“As the Russia-Ukraine conflict enters its third year, we have entered a new era, which is also the era of continued European integration. In this respect, Serbia’s integration is in the common interest of Europe,” he said.

It is not an imposed process, it is Serbia's sovereign choice. I believe that Serbia has an important role to play in strengthening the EU's strategic autonomy."
