With favorable natural conditions, especially soil and climate, Quang Nam is considered a fertile land, rich in products both from the source and from the sea, with many types of spices, precious local products, high commercial value, mentioned by scholar Le Quy Don in Phu Bien Tap Luc.
The abundance and richness of Quang Nam's products and the open trade policy of the Nguyen Lords promoted Hoi An to develop into the most bustling international trading port in the region during the Middle Ages. Hoi An trading port became a place where products from both Quang Nam and Dang Trong converged to spread throughout the world.
To identify and clarify the source of spices and local products of Hoi An, Quang Nam in international trade activities and the role of Hoi An port in the trade route of this item, with the consensus of the People's Committee of Hoi An city, the Center for Management and Conservation of Cultural Heritage of Hoi An will compile and publish a book titled "Fragrances and local products of Hoi An, Quang Nam". The content of the book is expected to have 2 main parts: spices and local products of Hoi An, Quang Nam in history; the preservation and development of the value of spices and local products of Hoi An, Quang Nam today.
The compilation and publication of the book "Fragrances and Local Products of Hoi An, Quang Nam" is one of a series of activities organized by Hoi An city to celebrate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23) and the 25th anniversary of Hoi An Ancient Town being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage (December 4, 1999 - December 4, 2024).
