On October 6, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong Trinh Van Tu said that the city is proposing to raise the entrance fee to the Cat Ba archipelago World Natural Heritage site to the same level as the entrance fee to Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh Province) because the current entrance fee in Hai Phong is much lower.
Lan Ha Bay in Cat Ba archipelago, Cat Hai district (Hai Phong city) currently has a lower entrance fee than the fee that Quang Ninh province is applying to Ha Long Bay.
However, according to Mr. Tu, there is no specific time for increasing the entrance fee, we have to wait for the City People's Council to meet, give opinions, and pass by resolution.
While waiting for the People's Council to approve the new entrance fee, Hai Phong will focus on solving a number of key tasks related to exploiting the Cat Ba archipelago World Natural Heritage to develop the tourism economy, specifically: Completely solving the traffic congestion at Got Ferry Terminal during peak tourist seasons; investing in the construction of Ben Binh passenger wharf; coordinating with Quang Ninh province to upgrade Gia Luan - Tuan Chau ferry; speeding up the progress of the cable car project and related entertainment areas in Cat Ba; focusing on developing a tourism development plan associated with the heritage.
In particular, Hai Phong also completed the Cat Ba Archipelago World Natural Heritage Management Board on the basis of integrating the units of Cat Ba National Park, the Management Board of Bays in Cat Ba Archipelago and the Cat Ba Archipelago Biosphere Reserve into one unit to unify the management and promote the heritage value effectively.

According to Mr. Tu, the World Natural Heritage of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba archipelago belongs to two provinces and cities, so there will not be a common management board. However, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh are building a unified regulation on the management, protection of heritage values, tour routes and prices of tourism services.
Currently, the entrance fee to Lan Ha Bay is 80,000 VND/person/trip, while in Ha Long Bay it is 200,000 to 250,000 VND (depending on the route). The overnight fee in Lan Ha Bay is from 250,000 VND - 500,000 VND, in Ha Long Bay it is 550,000 VND - 750,000 VND per person.
Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba archipelago has a total of 1,133 large and small islands, of which Ha Long Bay has 775 islands, and Cat Ba archipelago has 358 islands. The total area of the world heritage nomination area (core zone) is 65,650 hectares and the buffer zone is 34,140 hectares, surrounded by a buffer zone of 34,140 hectares.
Previously, on September 16, 2023 , the UNESCO World Heritage Committee met and recognized Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba archipelago as a world natural heritage .
