According to information from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, at the meeting, the press raised questions about the current appearance of advertisements on social networks by singers, actors, and models for products such as weight loss and skin care creams. Recently, the case of advertising Kera vegetable candy by the group Pham Quang Linh (Quang Linh Vlogs) and Nguyen Thi Thai Hang (Hang Du Muc) was prosecuted and temporarily detained for deceiving customers and producing fake food. So what mechanism does the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have to more closely control influential people in society who create advertising content?
Responding to this issue, Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh said that celebrities participating in advertising is a common phenomenon, often seen in practice.
Recently, with the development of social networks, it has become increasingly popular for influencers such as famous singers and artists to advertise and market on social networks.
To regulate this advertising activity, our country has the Advertising Law. With the increasing appearance of advertising on social networks, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Information and Communications have previously taken many measures to inspect, monitor and handle it.
For example, since June 2021, the Minister of Information and Communications has issued a code of conduct on social networks. By December 2021, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism also issued a code of conduct for people working in the arts.
"We also see that with the reality, there are more and more new things, the Advertising Law is also amended and supplemented. During the process of amending, we also received many enthusiastic, very correct and practical comments. In which, we plan to add some very specific provisions related to celebrities and artists participating in advertising. First of all, each person participating in online advertising must be responsible before the law in general and the Advertising Law in particular", said Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh.
Besides, according to Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh, celebrities and artists participating in advertising must also be responsible and have transparent and specific verification of the products they advertise.
Along with amending the law, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also drafted a decree with provisions regulating the activities of celebrities and artists. This includes increasing the level of sanctions or banning advertising; taking measures to limit artistic activities, limiting appearances in the media, social networks...
Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh said that state management in the field of advertising has existed for a long time, has been specifically implemented, and will continue to be strengthened in laws, decrees and related documents in the coming time.
Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh also requested press agencies to strengthen communication work, contributing to raising public awareness so that everyone has the ability to evaluate the truth/falsehood of advertising content. At the same time, it is also necessary to raise awareness among celebrities and those participating in artistic activities so that they understand that participating in advertising may have to trade off reputation and public love, which is very difficult to build.
