Before the merger, Quang Tri province had 10 district-level administrative units (7 districts, 1 Con Co island district, 1 city and 1 town), 119 grassroots units, including 13 wards, 11 towns, and 95 communes.
Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs Tran Huu Anh said that after the arrangement, Quang Tri is expected to have 37 commune-level administrative units including: 3 wards, 33 communes and 1 special zone, Con Co.
Specifically, the list of administrative units is arranged as follows: Dong Ha City has 2 wards: Dong Ha Ward (merging Ward 1, Ward 3, Ward 4, Dong Giang Ward, Dong Thanh Ward); Nam Dong Ha Ward (merging Ward 2, Ward 5, Dong Le Ward, Dong Thanh Ward).
Quang Tri town became Quang Tri ward after merging wards: 1, 2, 3, An Don, Hai Le.
Trieu Phong district has 5 communes including: Trieu Phong 1 (merged with Trieu Thanh, Trieu Thuong, Ai Tu town); Trieu Phong 2 (merged with Trieu Ai, Trieu Giang, Trieu Long); Trieu Phong 3 (merged with Trieu Do, Trieu Thuan, Trieu Hoa, Trieu Dai); Trieu Phong 4 (merged with Trieu Co, Trieu Trung, Trieu Tai); Trieu Phong 5 (merged with Trieu Trach, Trieu Phuoc, Trieu Tan).
Hai Lang district has 5 communes including: Hai Lang (merged with Hai Truong, Dien Sanh town, Hai Dinh); Dong Hai Lang (merged with Hai Duong, Hai An, Hai Khe); Tay Hai Lang (merged with Hai Lam, Hai Thuong, Hai Phu); Nam Hai Lang (merged with Hai Son, Hai Phong, Hai Chanh); Trung Hai Lang (merged with Hai Quy, Hai Hung, Hai Binh).
Gio Linh district has 4 communes: Tay Gio Linh (merged with Hai Thai, Linh Truong, Gio An, Gio Son); Dong Gio Linh (Gio Mai, Gio Hai, Cua Viet town); Gio Linh (merged with Gio Quang, Gio My, Phong Binh, Gio Linh town); Bac Gio Linh (Trung Hai, Trung Giang, Trung Son).
Vinh Linh district has 5 communes including: Vinh Linh 1 (merging Ho Xa, Vinh Long, Vinh Chap towns); Vinh Linh 2 (merging Cua Tung, Vinh Giang, Hien Thanh, Kim Thach towns); Vinh Linh 3 (merging Vinh Thai, Trung Nam, Vinh Hoa, Vinh Tu); Vinh Linh 4 (merging Vinh Thuy, Vinh Lam, Vinh Son); Vinh Linh 5 (Vinh O, Vinh Ha, Vinh Khe, Ben Quan town).
Huong Hoa district has 7 communes including: Huong Lap (merged with Huong Lap and Huong Viet); Huong Phung (merged with Huong Phung, Huong Son and Huong Linh); Khe Sanh (Khe Sanh, Tan Hop, Huc and Huong Tan towns); Tan Lap (merged with Tan Lap, Tan Lien and Huong Loc); Lao Bao (merged with Lao Bao, Tan Thanh and Tan Long towns); Lia (merged with Lia, Thanh and Thuan); A Doi (merged with A Doi, Ba Tang and Xy).
Dakrong district has 5 remaining communes including: La Lay (merged with A Bung, A Ngo); Ta Rut (merged with A Vao, Huc Nghi, Ta Rut); Dakrong (merged with Ba Nang, Ta Long, Dakrong); Ba Long (merged with Ba Long, Trieu Nguyen); Huong Hiep (merged with Huong Hiep, Mo O, Krong Klang town).
Cam Lo district has 2 communes: Cam Lo (merged with Cam Thanh, Cam Chinh, Cam Nghia, Cam Lo town); Cam Duong (merged with Cam Hieu, Cam Thuy, Cam Tuyen, Cam An).
Con Co Island District becomes Con Co Special Economic Zone.
According to the plan, Quang Tri province will collect people's opinions from localities from now until April 20. After that, the Department of Home Affairs will synthesize people's opinions and report to higher levels on April 22. The province will complete submitting to the Government the project dossier on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units before May 1.
