Durian prices in Tien Giang province have continuously increased in recent days, increasing durian growers' income.
Although durian prices are high, the current supply is quite limited. Mr. Nguyen Van Gia Bao, Executive Director of Huynh Nuong Company Limited (Ngu Hiep Commune, Cai Lay District) said that in recent days, durian prices have been increasing due to lack of goods.
The company collects the goods, but there is none, only a few tons every now and then. Every year, at this time, the gardeners would have a small harvest of durian.
But this year, very few gardeners have durian to sell. It is expected that durian will be available again in large quantities by November 2024.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang province, by the end of 2023, the province's durian area will be 21,790 hectares. Of which, the area for the product is 14,915 hectares, with an output of more than 386 thousand tons, mainly concentrated in Cai Lay district, Cai Be district and Cai Lay town.
Currently, the whole province has 155 durian growing area codes with an area of over 6,927 hectares and 66 durian packing facility codes.
To date, the province has received 266 durian growing area dossiers, of which 111 dossiers are awaiting Chinese approval with an area of over 4,700 hectares.
Since the Protocol on the official export of durian to the Chinese market took effect from July 11, 2022, the price of this fruit in the province has remained high, helping farmers earn large profits.
