After 3 months of implementing Decree 168: The number of traffic violations punished decreased by 30%

On the afternoon of April 1, informing reporters about the traffic order and safety situation after 3 months of implementing Decree 168/2024/ND-CP regulating administrative sanctions for violations of traffic order and safety in the field of road traffic; deducting points and restoring driving license points (from January 1 to March 31), the Traffic Police Department said that the number of traffic violations punished has decreased sharply, up to 31.9% compared to the same period last year.

Violations with high reduction rates are violations of alcohol concentration, oversize, overload, and over-number of people.

In the past three months, the national Traffic Police force detected and handled 728,818 cases of traffic order and safety violations (compared to the same period last year, the number of fines decreased by 341,519 cases); revoked driving licenses and professional certificates in 50,973 cases; deducted points from 75,202 driving licenses; and temporarily detained 203,341 vehicles (including 3,791 cars, 192,570 motorbikes, and 6,980 other vehicles).

Specifically, the Traffic Police Department said it handled 149,931 cases of alcohol concentration violations, a decrease of 130,340 cases (46.5%) compared to the same period; 168,598 cases of speeding violations, a decrease of 92,213 cases (35.4%) compared to the same period; 994 cases of driving on the road with drugs in the body, a decrease of 556 cases (36.3%) compared to the same period; violations of overloading, oversizing, and extending the body of the vehicle: 10,675 cases, a decrease of 10,583 cases (49.8%) compared to the same period; carrying more people than the prescribed number: 5,444 cases, a decrease of 9,322 cases (63.1%).

In addition, there were 9,131 cases of non-compliance with traffic light signals handled (a decrease of 5,281 cases, equal to 36.6%); 543 cases handled for non-compliance with traffic controllers' signals; 30,296 cases of road and lane violations; 64,764 cases of helmet violations; 424 cases of vehicles with expired or expired inspections.

According to the Traffic Police Department, the traffic accident situation has changed significantly, decreasing all three criteria compared to the same period in 2024.

In the past 3 months, there were 4,440 road traffic accidents nationwide, killing 2,446 people and injuring 3,026 people; compared to the same period in 2024, there were a decrease of 1,821 cases (29.09%), a decrease of 245 deaths (3.91%), and a decrease of 1,864 injuries (29.77%).

However, a representative of the Traffic Police Department also stated that recently there has been a situation of "lawlessness."

A small number of traffic participants show signs of not complying with the law on traffic order and safety, despite knowing that the penalties have been increased according to Decree 168.

To rectify this situation and form a habit of voluntarily complying with laws on traffic order and safety, the Traffic Police force will increase patrols, control and strictly handle 6 groups of behaviors that are the main causes of traffic accidents.

Violations are handled according to the motto "no forbidden zones, no exceptions", thereby creating and forming a "civilized", "modern" and "safe" traffic culture./.
