At about 4:40 a.m. on May 27, at Luc Si Thanh Islet (in Long Thanh Hamlet, Luc Si Thanh Commune, Tra On District, Vinh Long , commonly known as Thua Thien Islet), a riverbank landslide occurred, causing 3 houses to be at risk of collapsing into the river.
Landslide on Hau River branch puts 3 houses at risk of collapsing into the river
Mr. Nguyen Tan Tan, Vice Chairman of Luc Si Thanh Commune People's Committee, said that immediately after the incident, the commune leaders arrived at the scene and mobilized forces to support affected households in dismantling their houses and moving their assets to a safe place.
Authorities put up warning ropes in dangerous areas.
"This area has had a landslide before and it was repaired, but now it continues to collapse. Currently, the locality is coordinating with the Construction Management Board of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vinh Long and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra On District to find the cause of the landslide and solutions," said Mr. Tan.
The landslide is close to the edge of Mrs. Thuy's house.
The landslide section is about 60 m long, 4-5 m deep inland, located in an area with a large number of households. Notably, landslides had occurred in this area before and had been reinforced and repaired. However, due to strong currents, many large-capacity watercrafts circulating and the rainy season, landslides continued to occur, making the local people very worried.

'Now go somewhere else to stay, because I can't stay here anymore'
Ms. Pham Hong Thuy (residing in Long Thanh hamlet, Luc Si Thanh commune, Tra On district), a person directly affected, is still in shock as she recounts that at around 4:40 a.m. the same day, she felt her house shaking, and the whole family ran out in panic, only to find the ground collapsing up to the edge of the house.
"Now we have to go somewhere else to stay temporarily, we can't stay here anymore. This place has already eroded 4-5 meters, now it has eroded another 5-6 meters to my house. I'm so scared, I just want the government to support a solid embankment so that people can settle down and focus on their business, but now I don't know what to say," said Ms. Thuy.
Landslides are still at risk of further occurrence.
As soon as the landslide occurred, local authorities deployed support for affected households to relocate their belongings and household items. At the same time, warning lines were put up, advising households not to stay in dangerous areas. Authorities have come to investigate the cause to promptly take remedial measures.
Authorities assist people in evacuating their property and surveying the damage.
Currently, the landslide shows no signs of stopping. Many cracks continue to appear and there is a risk of further landslides.
