At the Da Nang press conference for the first quarter of 2025 on April 11, many reporters asked whether it is still necessary to encroach on Da Nang Bay for development (to create a free trade zone) when the area will be expanded in the near future?
Answering this question, Mr. Nguyen Ha Nam, Director of the Department of Construction of Da Nang, said that the idea of reclaiming land from the sea is not only to build a pure free trade zone, but also to form artificial islands to serve economic development.
These projects aim to create new momentum and potential for Da Nang City such as developing high-quality tourism, international tourism, international financial center, etc.
The city is currently conducting in-depth feasibility studies as well as technical assessments, such as flow factors, environmental impacts, materials, construction engineering solutions and other related factors.
"This process is ongoing, so we are continuing to research, develop projects, conduct surveys and assessments before submitting reports to the competent authorities," said Mr. Nam.
As Tuoi Tre Online reported, the issue of encroachment on the sea in Da Nang Bay has been raised and attracted public attention in recent times.
Da Nang City is researching sea encroachment to form a new urban area integrating the functions of a free trade zone, expanding urban and economic development space associated with services such as resort tourism, high-class shopping...
In the process of researching locations for building a free trade zone, Da Nang has planned and identified many different locations.
Experts also proposed many options, including reclaiming land from the sea to increase room for free trade zone development.
Based on research and expert advice, the city has noted and included this content in the project.
