Promoting the development of local tourism through the promotion of architectural heritage is one of the priorities of the Thua Thien Hue provincial government. In this spirit, the French Embassy in Vietnam and the French Institute in Vietnam (IFV) have proposed implementing a unique art project called the Festival of Light within the framework of the Hue Festival 2024.
This event continues the Hue by light - The live show project with 12 unique sound and light installations. Coming to the festival, visitors will feel like they are lost in a magical, poetic journey of discovery in the heart of Hue Imperial City and admire and experience the magical, interactive digital art space in Thai Binh Lau and the surrounding area.
A magical journey through the heart of the Imperial City
The French Embassy has accompanied the Hue Festival Organizing Committee for the past 24 years. French Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Olivier Brochet, said that the Light Festival project was conceived at the end of 2022, when the French Embassy was implementing the Hue by light - The live show project, which is the final event of the series of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Vietnam.
“With the Festival of Light, we combine different technologies and creative techniques to create a journey that is both academic and interactive, but always with an emphasis on aesthetics,” the French Ambassador emphasized.
According to Ambassador Olivier Brochet, all the installations are designed to bring the viewer an immersive experience in a magical universe throughout the journey of sound and light discovery. From the traditional Hue lanterns lit up in sync to the series of beautiful bonsai trees showing off their artificial roots as if lit on fire, anchored to the ground as the night falls. On the lake surface, a giant lotus shines with a myriad of colors… This journey through the heart of the Imperial City is like an invitation to bring visitors to the world of fantasy and imagination.
“Both Vietnam and France are interested in the topic of preserving and promoting cultural heritage. France has a lot of experience in preserving cultural heritage, so we are very happy to share our experiences in this field with Vietnam, to contribute to preserving cultural values and developing tourism,” said Ambassador Olivier Brochet.
The upcoming Festival of Light aims to enhance the skills of local teams through the exchange of French experience, skills and know-how, which are recognized and appreciated worldwide.
Massive and elaborate installation
Permanent Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, emphasized that the Light Festival taking place within the framework of Hue Festival 2024 is the result of cooperation between the French and Vietnamese teams to create a unique event, suitable for the chosen location.
Accordingly, the French team will take on the artistic direction of the event, while the content and technical solutions will be developed together with the Vietnamese partner in the spirit of participation and sharing of professional knowledge.
The festival is also the result of more than a year of creativity, searching for technical solutions and production by the AC3 Studio team to bring visitors an exciting walk in the grounds of Hue Imperial City and Thai Binh Lau.
To realize all of these installations, the creative team had to build a custom-designed, centralized control system consisting of nine data servers, 22 e-cards, many kilometers of cables, and more than 4,500 light sources that energize the buildings, gardens, trees, rockeries, and even the lake area.
The technologies used are varied depending on the specific installation, to best serve the visitor experience: smart grid systems through solar panels, traditional stage lighting systems, video mapping systems, controllable LED systems (Artnet), infrared sensors, fiber optics or even controlled smoke machines. The technology is used to serve the viewer experience and is designed to be invisible to visitors.
The head of the Hue Festival organizing committee said the Light Festival will open at 7 p.m. on June 8 at the Hue Imperial City. The program will continue from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day, from June 8 to 22.
