The golden pages of history will shine forever.

A traditional talk at Long Anh Secondary School ( Thanh Hoa City).

To commemorate the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2025) and the 60th anniversary of the Ham Rong victory (April 3-4, 1965 - April 3-4, 2025), the Veterans Association of Long Anh Ward (Thanh Hoa City) recently collaborated with the Ward Youth Union, Long Anh Secondary School, and Hoang Long Primary School to organize an extracurricular activity and invited veteran and writer Le Xuan Giang, former Political Commissar of Company 4 of Ham Rong, to share about the heroic achievements of the army and people of Thanh Hoa. During the traditional talk, veteran Le Xuan Giang enthusiastically recounted to the students the schemes and tactics of the US imperialists during their war of destruction against North Vietnam; and the spirit of unity among millions of people in the battle to protect the Ham Rong bridge. The disastrous failure of the US Air Force, with 47 planes shot down in just two days... With simple, clear storytelling and compelling evidence, the traditional talk by veteran Le Xuan Giang took the students back in time to the heroic years of Ham Rong - Nam Ngan in the past. Through this, it helped the students raise their awareness and responsibility in preserving and enhancing the glorious traditions of the heroic Thanh Hoa province.

Nguyen Huu Gia Huy, a 7th-grade student from Long Anh Secondary School, said: “As young people who didn't witness history firsthand, we were able to hear veteran Le Xuan Giang share about the revolutionary traditions of our locality through this talk. I feel very proud that Thanh Hoa City and Thanh Hoa Province have such a glorious history. I will continue to strive to study and train myself to contribute to building a more prosperous and beautiful homeland, worthy of the local historical traditions.”

Born and raised in peacetime, although not having witnessed the long and arduous resistance wars against foreign invaders, the youth of Thanh Hoa City have deeply and fully appreciated the glorious "golden epics" of our army and people's heroic deeds through the authentic, captivating, and moving stories of those who fought and died. This remains a source of pride for the Veterans Association and the Youth Union in their efforts to educate future generations of members, young people, and students about our traditions. Every year, on major anniversaries such as the Ham Rong Victory, the historic Dien Bien Phu, the great Spring Victory of 1975, or the founding day of the Vietnam People's Army, the city's youth eagerly listen to the veterans recount stories of the battlefield, of the city's sons and daughters, men and women, young and old, who wholeheartedly fought and served in the war, contributing to the "flower of victory." Through this, we aim to cultivate ideals, willpower, and character in young people in the current era, while simultaneously strengthening their faith in the nation's revolutionary cause.

Over the past five years (2019-2024), the Veterans Association of Ha Trung district has organized 132 traditional education sessions with 26,217 participants. Recognizing that educating the younger generation about patriotism and revolutionary heroism is a crucial task, the Ha Trung District Veterans Association has established a team of speakers consisting of historical witnesses with achievements in fighting against foreign invaders, possessing impeccable moral character, dedication, and responsibility to educate the district's youth about the immense values of national history. Through diverse methods such as candlelight vigils, traditional talks, meetings with young people enlisting in the army, and extracurricular activities, these historical witnesses have recreated the extremely fierce years of war, battlefield stories, the sacrifices of heroic martyrs, the camaraderie, and the bond between soldiers and civilians amidst the flames of war. In addition to sharing historical stories, the veterans also disseminate and educate young people and students about traffic safety laws and the prevention of social vices.

Faced with the negative impacts of the market economy, a segment of youth union members and young people are exhibiting deviant lifestyles, lacking ideals, lacking awareness of law enforcement, and disregarding and gradually distancing themselves from cultural and revolutionary traditions. In response to this situation, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union, in coordination with the Provincial Veterans Association, implemented a joint program on "strengthening the cultivation of revolutionary ideals, accompanying young people in establishing themselves and their careers, and spearheading the construction and protection of the Fatherland." During the period 2019-2024, the Veterans Associations at all levels in the province organized 1,522 traditional talks with 288,145 participants including youth union members, young people, students, and university students. Through their knowledge, experience, and practical insights, and through specific stories, the veterans—those who directly fought and dedicated their youth to the war—have diligently nurtured revolutionary ideals, helping the children better understand history through impressive real-life stories, thereby arousing national pride and a sense of responsibility in the youth towards the country.

History is "a torch illuminating the path to the future." To ensure that the echoes of history endure, spread far and wide, and are etched in the hearts of every son and daughter of Thanh Hoa province, the widespread implementation of traditional education has helped the younger generation develop a correct understanding of national history, thereby continuously striving, preserving, and enhancing the glorious tradition of resisting foreign invaders.
