Tomorrow morning, April 19, Rach Mieu 2 Bridge will officially close.

This is an important milestone marking the success in completing the final cast block of the main bridge, nearly 4 months ahead of schedule compared to the Prime Minister's direction.

After nearly 25 months of construction, Rach Mieu 2 Bridge - a modern cable-stayed bridge with a total length of 1,971 m, has completed the main bridge section with 112 cable-stayed bundles and 2 towers 113.5 m high. The project has 4 lanes for motor vehicles with a width of 21.5 m, allowing a design speed of up to 80 km/h.

With a total route length of over 17.6 km, the project has a total investment of 6,810.11 billion VND. The starting point connects to Dong Tam intersection (intersection between National Highway 1 and Provincial Road 870) in Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province; the end point connects to Km16+660 National Highway 60, in Ben Tre city, Ben Tre province.

Mr. Can Manh Hung, Director of the Executive Board, representative of the Executive Board of the joint venture Trung Nam EC - Trung Chinh - Dat Phuong and Bac Trung Nam said: "I am proud that the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project was completed before the anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. The bridge not only helps to share the burden on the traffic route, but also opens up a new direction of development for the whole region. The people here have also been looking forward to it, and for me to directly contribute to the construction of the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project is a great honor".

"Currently, Trung Nam EC and the contractor consortium are still focusing all resources, arranging personnel to carry out "3 shifts, 4 shifts" to be able to soon open the project to traffic on schedule of the investor", Mr. Can Manh Hung affirmed.

The process is urgent.

According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, up to now, the entire project has completed 85% of the volume, exceeding the overall progress by more than 5.04% compared to the plan. The main bridge section - Rach Mieu 2 Bridge is exceeding the progress by more than 15%".

To achieve this achievement, the contractor mobilized 150 pieces of equipment, 500 workers, 83 technical staff to deploy 30 construction teams according to the "3 shifts, 4 teams" method, "overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain", working through holidays and organizing the emulation movement "45 days and nights to speed up progress".

Rach Mieu 2 Bridge promotes socio-economic development and ensures national defense and security of provinces in the Mekong Delta region.

According to the original plan, the project was expected to be completed in January 2026. However, after continuous efforts, the Project Management Board has significantly shortened the progress. The entire project is expected to be completed and put into operation in August 2025, 3 months earlier than the Prime Minister's direction and about 6 months shorter than the contract.

When completed, Rach Mieu 2 Bridge will contribute to meeting the increasing transportation demand on National Highway 60, reducing the load on the existing Rach Mieu Bridge; at the same time, promoting socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security of the provinces in the Mekong Delta region.
