DNVN - Green production is not only an opportunity but also the "key" for Vietnamese enterprises to access large markets such as the EU and the US, which are increasingly setting strict environmental standards to ensure sustainable development goals.
At the recent seminar "Building an ecosystem to promote green production", Mr. Nguyen Tran Quang - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion (HPA) said that along with economic development are environmental challenges.
More than 30% of industrial zones in the North still fail to meet waste treatment standards, posing an urgent challenge for sustainable development. The irrational use of natural resources has led to many consequences such as land degradation, air pollution and depletion of fresh water resources.
The Deputy Director of HPA emphasized that green production brings great benefits, not only helping businesses reduce operating costs, but also contributing to improving competitiveness.
Citing a 2022 World Bank study, Mr. Quang said that businesses applying green production models can save 10-30% on energy and raw material costs. Typically, the Green Energy Group in Hai Phong has reduced operating costs by 25% thanks to the application of recycling and reuse technology.

Sharing the same view, according to Dr. Mac Quoc Anh - Vice President and General Secretary of the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (HANOISME), green production is not only an opportunity but also the "key" for businesses to access large markets such as the EU and the US, which impose strict environmental standards. Products that meet green standards not only have the ability to penetrate these markets but also enjoy tax and export incentives. This encourages Vietnamese businesses to improve their competitiveness, helping Vietnamese goods increase their reputation in the international arena.
In addition to economic benefits, the transition to green production also opens up great job opportunities for workers. Citing research by the Green Economy Research Institute, the Vice President of HANOISME said that by 2030, Vietnam could create about 2 million more jobs in fields such as renewable energy, biotechnology and organic agriculture.
"Green production not only solves environmental problems but also contributes to improving the quality of human resources, creating conditions for Vietnam's sustainable development," Mr. Mac Quoc Anh emphasized.
Regarding the agricultural sector, Ms. Dang Thi Bich Huong - Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association said that organic agriculture plays an important role in the development of a green economy. By 2023, the area of organic farming land in Vietnam has reached about 235,000 hectares, accounting for 2.36% of the total agricultural land area of the country. Organic products such as coconut, rice, spices, and tea are increasingly popular and consumed strongly, especially in big cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.
In addition, the export of organic agricultural products is expected to reach about 500 million USD in revenue by 2023, mainly products with international organic certification. Vietnam currently has about 200 units exporting vegetables, coffee, rice, cashews, and pepper to markets such as France, Denmark, Switzerland, the US and many other countries.
According to Ms. Huong, organic agriculture contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by limiting the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, helping to reduce the amount of chemicals by 30-50% compared to conventional farming. This not only protects the environment but also preserves biodiversity and protects water and land resources.
At the seminar, delegates shared the view that transitioning to green production is not only a solution for businesses in the new era but also a responsibility to protect the environment and create a sustainable economy. With support from the Government and preferential policies, Vietnamese businesses can take advantage of this opportunity to develop strongly, contributing to building a green economy, competing globally and bringing benefits to society.
The seminar "Building an ecosystem to promote the green production transition and sustainable development" was chaired by the Hanoi Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center (HPA), in coordination with the Vietnam Organic Enterprise Association and the Hanoi Small and Medium Enterprises Association, within the framework of the Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Program Connecting for Development - "Link to Grow" - Hanoi and the Northern provinces 2024. The program took place from October 25-27 at Vincom Mega Mall Smart City, Dai Mo ward, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi to promote the image of Hanoi city, introduce its potential and strengths, attract investment in green technologies and environmentally friendly products. |
