Production combined with processing - an effective direction for developing commodity agriculture

This new form of production comes from changing the thinking and working methods of farmers. The production model on the hilly forest land of Thanh Son Cooperative (Thanh Nghi - Thanh Liem) with an area of ​​5 hectares of Ms. Pham Thi Men is effectively exploited in the direction of production associated with product processing. In this area, Ms. Men grows many types of herbal plants, such as: Chrysanthemum, papaya (male papaya variety for flowers), blood dragon, aloe vera... Along with production, she invested in a modern cold drying oven (freeze drying) to dry chrysanthemum flowers, male papaya flowers, blood dragon leaves to make tea to ensure quality and appearance. She combines male papaya flowers with honey to create male papaya flowers soaked in honey. It is known that the herbal plants grown by Ms. Men are all of safe quality. The products processed in her model are all recognized as OCOP (One Commune One Product Program), rated 3 stars including: Chrysanthemum tea, male papaya flower tea, male papaya flower soaked in honey, dragon blood leaf tea).

Ms. Pham Thi Men said: Developing in the direction of production combined with processing creates initiative and increases product value. Currently, processed products are mainly sold through e-commerce sites and are well received by customers. In the future, my family will continue to expand the scale of production and processing of herbal products.

Like Ms. Men, many production models are applied by people to process to create refined products when they reach consumers. For example, the Cordyceps mushroom growing model of Minh Duc Herbal Cooperative (Cong Ly commune, Ly Nhan) processes many products, such as: Tea, wine, dried Cordyceps... Or the fish farming model using "river in pond" technology of Hai Dang River in Pond Aquatic Cooperative, Thanh Son commune (Kim Bang town) has processed fish raised according to Viet GAP standards into products: Fish floss, fish cakes, braised fish... In particular, the dairy farming area of ​​Duy Tien town has established a number of enterprises processing products from pure fresh cow's milk, such as: Pasteurized fresh milk, drinking yogurt, purple sticky rice yogurt, aloe vera yogurt, blueberry yogurt... There are more than 10 products processed from fresh cow's milk of units that combine production with processing that have been recognized as OCOP, ranked 3 stars and 4 stars.

Muc Dong Dairy Joint Stock Company, formerly known as Muc Dong Dairy Farm, was developed in an organic direction at the Concentrated Dairy Farm Area, Trac Van Commune (Duy Tien Town). All fresh milk products from the farm are processed into quality dairy products (up to 4 dairy products meeting OCOP standards, 4-star rating) to supply to consumers in major cities, especially the capital Hanoi. In recent years, to expand the scale of production, the company has invested in renting land and building a dairy farm in Lac Thuy District (Hoa Binh Province) with a scale of 100 cows certified to Japanese organic standards. All fresh milk exploited from the herd (1 ton per day) is brought to the processing facility in Hoa Mac Ward (Duy Tien Town). According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thinh, Director of the Company, developing production associated with processing creates a new direction, increasing the value of agricultural products. This direction requires that the unit apply science and technology well, creating products from raw materials to processing to ensure quality. From there, create good competitiveness in the market with similar products to gain the trust and choice of consumers.

The efficiency of production combined with processing has clearly shown its effectiveness. The products have all increased in value and profit. Specifically, chrysanthemum products when processed become chrysanthemum tea, honey soaked with male papaya flowers... the value increases 3-4 times when sold raw to other processing facilities. Hundred-leaf lotus flowers when used to scent tea have increased the value of the product many times (calculated according to the value of lotus-scented tea compared to raw tea). Fresh cow's milk, if raised normally and imported to processing factories, is only sold at 12-15 thousand VND/kg. However, when produced to organic standards, through processing, the value increases to 75 thousand VND/kg, 5 times higher. In particular, agricultural products in the direction from production to processing help create a typical agricultural brand of the province.

Many agricultural models have done quite well in production associated with product processing. The industry is continuing to support science and technology and trade promotion to have more models, aiming to expand to many production areas for livestock, crop cultivation and aquaculture...

The effectiveness of production models associated with processing is the driving force for farmers to learn, apply, and expand production.
