Therefore, the 2023 - 2024 winter-spring crop sowing time is guaranteed, the planting area is more than 50,400/47,665 hectares, reaching 105.43% of the plan. As a result, the winter-spring crop food output is estimated at 280,824/257,015 tons, reaching 109.26% of the plan. Of which, rice output is estimated at nearly 260,000 tons, corn nearly 21,600 tons. The average rice yield of the province in the winter-spring crop is 6 - 7 tons/ha; estimated increase in rice yield is 6.5 quintals/ha; corn 7.8 quintals/ha.
To use water economically in production, localities have converted to other crops on rice land with an area of 3,289 hectares, of which 1,545 hectares have been converted to corn, 362 hectares to vegetables of all kinds... The converted area is mainly in Tanh Linh, Duc Linh, and Ham Thuan Bac districts.
The conversion of crop structure of localities aims to promote the efficiency of land use and increase the saving of irrigation water, limit pests and diseases of rice plants for the following crops. In addition, to improve production efficiency, in the winter-spring crop, the whole province has implemented the socialization of rice varieties with 749 hectares in Tuy Phong, Ham Thuan Bac, Tanh Linh. Farmers are increasingly interested in using certified rice varieties for rice production, thereby increasing the rate of certified rice varieties to over 80% in the province...
