The match, part of the 7th round of V-League 2023, took place on the afternoon of April 13 at Hang Day Stadium. Previously, Hai Phong had asked the home team Hanoi to support 1,000 tickets for fans from the port city. The document signed by the Chairman of Hai Phong Club emphasized that Hai Phong fans will cheer in a civilized manner and pledge not to light flares.
However, the opposite happened when Hai Phong fans lit flares in the stands in the first half. Many away fans even lit flares on the street before the match took place. The press quoted Mr. Van Tran Hoan as saying that asking for ticket support was normal, but because the document was leaked, it caused some fans to riot.
Regarding the incident, a member of the VFF Disciplinary Board said today that they had received a report from the tournament's Organizing Committee. According to this person, the Disciplinary Board may hold an online meeting this weekend to issue disciplinary decisions to the relevant parties.
“ The phenomenon of Hai Phong fans lighting flares when their team plays at Hang Day Stadium happens quite often. The flares are very small, and no matter how tight security is, it is difficult to completely prevent them. I think this issue needs propaganda from the media and the club to raise awareness among fans, to avoid any unfortunate incidents ,” he said.
It is likely that Hang Day Stadium organizers will receive a fine like recent cases. According to calculations, in the past 5 years, Hang Day Stadium organizers have had to pay a fine of nearly 400 million VND due to fans lighting flares.
The current chairman of Hai Phong Football Club, Mr. Van Tran Hoan, was previously known as an enthusiastic fan, nicknamed Hoan "cannon".
