Following the success in deploying the cashless payment system on metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien), Sacombank continues to accompany the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Public Works to expand the open payment model (Open-loop) to the entire bus system of the city.

This is a modern payment solution, allowing passengers to use a variety of payment methods such as bank cards, e-wallets, Apple Pay/Samsung Pay/QR code/… to pay for travel needs with just one touch. Currently, Mastercard and Visa cardholders issued by any domestic or foreign bank can pay when riding the bus through POS machines located right on the bus.

It is expected that in May 2025, the system will continue to expand to accept NAPAS, JCB, UnionPay and American Express cards. This is Sacombank's next step in its journey to accompany Ho Chi Minh City in building modern and synchronous payment solutions for the public transport system. This system aims to form a multi-modal transport "ecosystem" - from metro, bus, water bus, electric buggy to public bicycles.

Not only does it provide a convenient, seamless and economical travel experience, the system also contributes to promoting people to gradually shift from personal vehicles to public transport - towards a green, modern and sustainable urban area. The application of the electronic ticket system also helps to optimize the operating process, reduce the need to print paper tickets or plastic cards, the amount of waste from traditional tickets will be significantly reduced, helping to save natural resources and limit pollution. The transition to a cashless model is also in line with the direction of digital economic development and promoting environmentally responsible consumption.

At the event, Sacombank also introduced the Sacombank Mastercard MultiPass - a payment card line with special incentives for passengers using public transport. With the MultiPass card, users enjoy many incentives such as bus travel at a uniform price of only VND5,000/trip, metro line 1 tickets with a maximum price of VND10,000/trip. In addition, when paying for bus tickets with MultiPass, cardholders also receive an additional 5% discount. These are practical incentives to encourage people to switch to green, economical and safe forms of transportation.

At the same time, aiming at the student segment, Sacombank plans to implement a 50% discount on bus fares for students. Especially in the first month of implementation, cardholders will also enjoy a special offer of 100% refund of bus ticket payments. Customers can choose to open a physical or non-physical card on the Sacombank Pay and Multigo applications this April.

Speaking at the event, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport emphasized: “The implementation of an open payment system on buses not only promotes digital transformation, but is also an important milestone in the socialization of resources, improving management efficiency and bringing practical benefits to the people. This is a practical step forward to bring Ho Chi Minh City closer to the goal of becoming a smart and sustainable city.”

On the journey of more than 33 years of development, Sacombank has always strived to bring optimal and sustainable financial solutions, closely linked to the development of the city and the lives of the people. With the interoperable electronic ticket system, we hope to contribute to improving the public transport experience, creating conditions for people to have easier access to digital financial services and at the same time encouraging environmentally friendly consumer behavior.

Ms. Winnie Wong, Country Manager of Mastercard in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos also expressed: “The deployment of Open Loop payment system on buses in Ho Chi Minh City and MultiPass card is another step in Mastercard's journey to bring modern transportation solutions to cities around the world, making people's travel simpler, faster and more efficient.

The launch of the open transport model and the Sacombank Mastercard MultiPass card not only marks an important step forward in the digital transport roadmap in Ho Chi Minh City but is also an indispensable part of the strategy to develop urban models oriented towards public transport development (TOD - Transit Oriented Development) which is being identified by Ho Chi Minh City as a necessary direction for rapid and sustainable development.
