In Dam Rong district, Da K'Nang Agricultural Production Cooperative is one of the pioneers in converting perennial crops to high-tech vegetable and flower growing, expanding links with local people.
After a long time of producing vegetables and flowers using high technology, Da K'Nang Agricultural Production Cooperative boldly introduced experimental planting of cut chrysanthemums such as Macato, Calimero...
"The testing process shows that the soil and climate of Da K'Nang are very suitable for growing flower varieties, the quality of the flowers is not inferior to famous regions such as Da Lat and Don Duong" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Bao Nhi, technical manager of the cooperative said.

Bao Nhi is a young girl born and raised in the difficult land of Dam Rong. Witnessing her father, who is also the Director of the Da K'Nang Agricultural Production Cooperative, always wanting to find a new direction for agriculture, Nhi also partly understands the hardships of farmers. Graduated from the Plant Protection major of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Bao Nhi wishes to apply the knowledge she has learned to her family's agricultural cultivation and hopes that the name Da K'Nang in particular, and Dam Rong in general, will become familiar to growers and flower lovers across the country.

“Customers who received the flowers were extremely surprised when they heard the name Da K'Nang. Many people thought that chrysanthemums must be grown in Da Lat or neighboring areas such as Lac Duong, Don Duong. It seems that this land is still unfamiliar to many people,” Bao Nhi shared.

That is why Bao Nhi is always struggling to find ways to promote the cooperative's garden. Taking advantage of her young age, Bao Nhi created channels on Facebook, Tiktok and actively used social networks to record videos, take pictures and regularly broadcast live at the flower garden to reach a large number of customers.
Currently, with an area of about 5 hectares of greenhouses specialized for breeding and growing peonies, Da K'Nang Agricultural Production Cooperative supplies the market with 200,000 - 300,000 peonies/month. During peak holidays and Tet, the quantity is even greater.

According to the young engineer, chrysanthemum is a difficult plant to grow. The cooperative imported seeds from Malaysia, conducted tissue culture in Da Lat City and brought them to Dam Rong to grow and propagate. Compared to the general level, the price of chrysanthemum seedlings is quite high, requiring high care techniques and a much higher investment level than traditional chrysanthemum varieties.
“However, the price of chrysanthemums is much higher than that of traditional flowers. In addition, there are not many places in the market that can grow this type of flower, and imported goods are quite expensive, so currently, the cooperative's output is still lower than market demand,” said Bao Nhi.
After being cut from the garden, the chrysanthemums are cut back to their roots to be dyed as required. |

According to Bao Nhi, compared to some imported chrysanthemums, chrysanthemums grown in some localities in Lam Dong such as Dam Rong, Da Lat, Don Duong have good quality flowers, large and round blooms, so they are favored by customers. Currently, the quantity of the cooperative is not enough to supply stores at wholesale markets in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

Through Facebook and Tiktok channels, the cooperative has reached many potential customers. According to Bao Nhi, domestically grown flowers have many advantages over imported flowers of the same type.
“Usually, imported flowers cost twice as much as domestically grown flowers. Meanwhile, domestically grown flowers have the same quality, and even have an advantage in terms of variety in size and design. Domestic products also have higher durability and freshness than imported products because when transported from abroad, they have gone through a long process of packaging and preservation in cold storage,” Bao Nhi analyzed.
In addition to the original white flower color, the cooperative is also using the technique of dyeing flowers from the root to create diverse colors according to customer requirements. The dyes used are of biological origin, safe for users and are very popular in the market because they create many impressive flower colors with their own identity and personality.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dam Rong district said that Da K'Nang Agricultural Production Cooperative is not only a pioneer in applying science and technology, high technology in production but also contributes to creating jobs for many local workers; in which, many workers are ethnic minorities.
The unit has also proactively sought new directions, in line with the development orientation of high-tech agricultural sub-regions of Dam Rong district.

Although it only started a few years ago, the agricultural sub-region of Phi Lieng and Da K' Nang is currently strongly developing high-tech agriculture, notably flowers, bell peppers, melons, etc., for high productivity and income.
Reproduction and expansion of chrysanthemum growing area is also one of the models highly appreciated by the local agricultural sector. However, to be able to replicate it is still difficult because of the technical requirements as well as the high initial investment costs.
