At approximately 7:00 AM this morning (May 13th), a tugboat with registration number LA-03774, towing a barge with registration number SG-2612, traveling from the Saigon River towards An Loc Bridge, collided with pillar T6 of An Phu Dong Bridge.
The image captures the incident where a barge collided with a pillar of the An Phu Dong bridge on the morning of May 13th.
The Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transportation Works (Transportation Board) stated that the collision caused piles No. 6 and No. 7 of the T6 bridge pier to bend and the pier top to shift. Immediately after the collision, the Department of Transport, the Transportation Board, and other relevant agencies inspected and surveyed the scene to assess the current condition and determine repair and remediation measures.
"For the time being, to ensure traffic safety, the Department of Transport will restrict weight limits and prohibit cars from crossing the bridge (two-wheeled vehicles can still travel normally) so that the Traffic Management Board and related units can conduct inspections, assessments, and repairs to the bridge," a leader of the Traffic Management Board informed.

The An Phu Dong bridge is currently closed to car traffic for inspection and repair work following an incident.
Construction of the An Phu Dong bridge began in March 2020 and it opened to traffic on December 31, 2020. The bridge is made of steel, 238m long and 12.5m wide, accommodating two lanes for cars and two sidewalks for pedestrians. The approach roads on both sides of the bridge are 1,166m long, featuring a 3x3m box culvert system; a lighting system; and reinforced concrete embankments along the banks of the Vam Thuat River.
In October 2020, a barge navigating the Vam Thuat River collided with the bridge during the construction phase, causing one span to shift from its abutment. Authorities immediately rectified the situation to avoid impacting the bridge's completion schedule.
The An Phu Dong Bridge replaced the previous An Phu Dong ferry, shortening the travel distance between An Phu Dong ward and Go Vap district by nearly 10 km. Since the bridge opened to traffic, people on both sides of the river no longer have to crowd together waiting for the ferry, and traffic congestion during peak hours has also been resolved.
