(Dan Tri) - Alexander Zverev defeated formidable opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Masters, while Holger Rune overcame Alex de Minaur to maintain his hopes of reaching the ATP Tour Finals.
PARIS MASTERS SEMI-FINAL SCHEDULE
Alexander Zverev - Holger Rune (8:00 p.m., November 2)
Ugo Humbert - Karen Khachanov (11:40 p.m., November 2)
Zverev's 7-5, 6-4 win over Tsitsipas keeps him in the race for a first title in Paris after losing to Daniil Medvedev in the 2020 final.
World No. 3 Zverev - the highest-ranked player remaining in the ATP rankings - will face 2022 champion Rune in the semi-finals after the Dane overcame De Minaur 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

The 16th meeting between the German and Greek was evenly matched in a tense first set. "Tsitsipas played better than me at first, but then I found my rhythm from the baseline. And when I had the chance, I took it in the first set," Zverev said after the match.
Indeed, after Zverev broke late in the opening set and early in the second, he had a comfortable path to his sixth win over his long-time Greek rival.
The defeat ended world number 11 Tsitsipas' chances of reaching the year-end ATP Finals - after winning the landmark event in 2019.
Former world number four Rune, seeded 13th in Paris, needed just one break of serve to claim an opening win over De Minaur.
In the second set, the Australian began to expand his shots from the back of the court, creating many beautiful winners on both wings that excited the fans.
The tenacious Rune finally gave way when serving at 4-5, creating three set points for De Minaur, who converted with a well-constructed point as he dragged the 21-year-old all over the court before volleying home with ease.
The Australian slowly lost his first serve in the deciding set and Rune took advantage by breaking in the fifth game, but De Minaur immediately fought back to level the score.
However, Rune broke away to lead 6-5 before consolidating their position to win the match.
"Zverev and I had a great match in Paris where he won in five sets. I beat him once, last time he beat me. He is one of the best players this year, so I will have to prepare very well," Rune said of facing Zverev, who won when the two met in a five-set fourth-round clash at Roland Garros this year.

With this result, both Rune and De Minaur still have a chance to enter the ATP Finals in Turin, taking place from November 10 to November 17.
Frenchman Ugo Humbert, who beat world number two Carlos Alcaraz in the third round, delighted his home crowd by beating unseeded Jordan Thompson 6-2, 7-6.
The world number 18 will face Russian Karen Khachanov in the second semi-final, after the Russian defeated last year's runner-up Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3.
