Bustling Independence Day celebrations in Kim Son

For many years now, the annual National Day holiday on September 2 has become a festival for the people of Kim Son district with many unique cultural and sports activities organized by the district People's Committee. Thereby creating a safe and useful playground for all classes of people to enjoy the Independence Day, while at the same time preserving the unique cultural features of the coastal people.

The Kim Mau Theater campus (Nam Dan street, Phat Diem town) is the venue for the annual sports festival of Kim Son district. This is the center of the district, with a fairly large campus and the An River flowing through. In 2022, the Kim Son district sports festival to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 opened here, attracting thousands of local people to visit and cheer for more than 400 athletes of teams from 25 communes, towns and sectors and organizations in the district. Besides modern sports such as volleyball, there are also traditional games such as tug of war, chess, rowing... and some other folk games. In particular, rowing is a typical cultural feature of Kim Son district with the characteristics of a dense river system, adjacent to the sea.

For generations, when roads were limited, rivers were an important traffic route for Kim Son people to trade goods; a livelihood with fish and shrimp for fishermen. Until now, rivers still play an important role in the livelihood of Kim Son people to develop the aquaculture industry. Therefore, rowing is indispensable in every festival of the district, because it is not only a sport, but also a unique cultural feature, preserving the history and traditions of the land and people of Kim Son. In addition, the folk games in the Kim Son district competition on September 2 also have their own beauty and meaning.

Comrade Vu Thi Ben, Deputy Secretary of Kim Son District Youth Union, said: The District Youth Union was assigned to host two folk games: climbing corn bridges and catching ducks in the river, specifically for youth, teenagers and children. The games require dexterity, perseverance and calmness - precious human qualities, which is also the message we want to convey to the younger generation.

The exciting activities taking place in Kim Son district during the National Day holiday on September 2nd every year are not only meaningful activities to celebrate the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam but also create a joyful and safe playground for the people, attracting the attention of young people to sports and traditional cultural values. Not only that, through the crowded scene, full of people coming to visit, cheering on the activities, along with the smiles and cheers that resound throughout the sky, it also partly shows the prosperity in material life, the need to nurture and cultivate the spiritual life of the people of Kim Son.

Mr. Ta Thanh Ba, over 70 years old this year, living in Nam Dan street, Phat Diem town, said: The cultural and sports activities organized by the district annually on the occasion of the National Day holiday on September 2nd create a joyful and exciting atmosphere, helping to improve the cultural and spiritual life of our people, especially those who are far from home. Last year, my children and grandchildren from Hanoi came back for the holiday, they were very happy because their hometown had many exciting activities, its appearance was increasingly prosperous, and the people's lives were improved both materially and spiritually. They promised that this year, when they have a long National Day holiday, they will return to their hometown to rest and have fun, enjoying the unique cultural and sports activities in Kim Son.

Following the tradition from previous years, during the National Day holiday of September 2, 2023, the People's Committee of Kim Son district continues to organize a series of cultural, artistic, and sports activities to meet and serve the entertainment needs of the people.

Comrade Pham Van Sang, Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Kim Son district, said: The activities to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 have been planned and implemented by the district People's Committee. In addition to organizing incense offerings to commemorate and show gratitude for the contributions of our ancestors; organizing visits and giving gifts to revolutionary veterans, pre-uprising cadres, and Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in the area; the district focuses on organizing cultural, artistic, and sports activities from August 30 to September 2 to serve the people.

In particular, in this year's activities, Kim Son district is the location chosen by the Department of Culture and Sports to host the 2023 Ninh Binh Provincial Traditional Wrestling Tournament, scheduled to take place on August 30 at Kim Mau Theater. In addition, this year there will be an additional women's volleyball event in the sports competitions.

Through activities to create a joyful and exciting atmosphere, encourage and motivate cadres, party members and people of all walks of life in the district to continue to successfully implement the socio-economic development tasks in 2023, the Resolution of the Party Congress at all levels. At the same time, it integrates propaganda and education on historical, cultural and revolutionary traditions, patriotism, the spirit of great solidarity, consolidating and fostering people's trust.
