Mr. Hoang Anh Tu (36 years old, Tho Loc village, Ha Linh commune, Ha Trung district, Thanh Hoa province) used to work as a hotel manager in Hanoi with a stable salary. In 2015, because his wife was often sick, in order to have time to take care of her, he had to return to his hometown to start a business.

"When I decided to return to my hometown, everyone tried to dissuade me. My parents said that with a stable job, returning to my hometown would only make things harder. Because I had a plan and intention, I chose to return to my hometown to start a business raising egg-laying chickens," Tu shared.
From a businessman to a farmer, the young man encountered many difficulties in his early career. Taking advantage of the land behind his house, he borrowed 300 million VND from the bank to invest in 300 breeding chickens and build a semi-industrial chicken farm.
The first batch of chickens was more successful than he expected, earning him 24 million VND. At first, things seemed to go smoothly, so Mr. Tu decided to increase the size of his farm from 300 to 2,000 colored chickens. This breed of chicken brings him several hundred million VND in income each year.

However, due to the unstable market price of colored chickens, Mr. Tu has suffered losses many times. "In 2019, I lost about 300 million VND due to low market prices, while input material costs increased," said Mr. Tu.
At the same time, Mr. Tu decided to invest in 2,500 more Egyptian super egg chickens. Raising both breeds at the same time helps him balance his income and offset his losses.
"Raising broiler chickens is like gambling. When the price is good, you win big, but when the price drops, you lose money. So I raise both types to offset each other's losses. Broiler chickens are very unstable, while raising egg-laying chickens means that the products can be sold continuously throughout the year. Farmers are less pressured by market prices, and sometimes they make a profit, sometimes they make up for the losses, so they still have income," said Mr. Tu.

According to Mr. Tu, Egyptian chickens have the characteristic of large, even eggs, one chicken can produce 250-270 eggs/year. Therefore, from 2021, he has completely switched to raising Egyptian egg-laying chickens.
Currently, his farm has about 8,000 eggs, on average selling about 5,000 eggs to the market each day, with the current selling price of 2,500 VND/egg, after deducting expenses, he makes a profit of about 3 million VND/day.

Talking about the technique of raising Egyptian egg-laying chickens, Mr. Tu said that the breeding process must ensure disease safety. All stages from selecting breeds, caring, cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing must follow strict procedures.
"First, you must choose good breeds with clear origins. The chickens must be vaccinated right from the start. A chicken must be vaccinated about 10 times from the time it is raised until it lays eggs to ensure disease safety," said the farm owner.
In addition, the barn must be airy and clean. To ensure disease safety, he currently raises chickens using biosafety methods.
In the barn, he uses biological bedding and sprays disinfectants periodically to ensure a living environment for the chickens. Waste sources are also strictly controlled from the discharge, collection, packaging and transportation stages.
In addition to good economic development, Mr. Tu also connects and transfers science and technology on disease-safe livestock farming to people in the commune with the desire to get rich with farmers.
In addition, Mr. Tu's farm also creates regular jobs for 2 local workers with a salary of 7.5 million VND/person/month. During the peak harvest season, his farm has 5 more workers.

Talking about future plans, Mr. Tu said he is planning to expand the farm to about 1 hectare, increasing the total number of chickens to 20,000.
Mr. Hoang Dinh Thang, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ha Linh commune, said that the Egyptian egg-laying chicken farming model of Mr. Tu's family is the first large-scale model in the locality.
"Mr. Tu is an example of a good farmer association member in the locality. His model has been invested in and built quite systematically, bringing high economic efficiency. In addition, he also supports many people in the commune to learn from his experience and strive to become rich. At the same time, Mr. Tu's family farm also creates jobs for 2 regular workers and many seasonal workers," said Mr. Thang.
