Israeli intelligence believes Iran is preparing to attack Israel from Iraqi territory in the coming days, possibly ahead of the US presidential election on November 5th.
According to Axios , citing informed sources, Iran's planned attack on Israel would be launched from Iraq using a large number of drones and ballistic missiles.
Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted an Iranian missile on October 1, 2024.
According to the report, carrying out the attack through pro-Iranian militias in Iraq may have been an attempt by Tehran to avert another Israeli attack on strategic targets in Iran.
A U.S. official told Axios that Iran could quickly deploy preparatory measures if Tehran decided to attack soon. The official said Washington could not yet confirm the information about the attack.

Iraq has not yet responded to the information. A spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on November 1 that Tehran would "use all available tools" to retaliate against the Israeli airstrikes.
According to Reuters, citing informed sources, Iraq is currently trying to avoid being drawn into regional conflicts. "Groups with missiles and drones should go to Gaza and Lebanon to fight Israel instead of pushing Iraq down a path of destruction," Reuters quoted Abdul Ameer Thuaiban, an advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister, as saying.
Mohammed Shummary, chairman of the Sumeria Foundation (Baghdad), assessed on October 31 that escalating regional conflict risks drawing Iraq's Shi'ite Muslim faction into a catastrophic confrontation.
"They are torn between the decision to keep Iraq out of the conflict and their ideological and political commitments to the Shia in Lebanon and the broader resistance, amid Israeli provocations that have crossed all permissible red lines," Shummary told Reuters.
"If the fighting escalates, it would not only mean that attacks on Israeli targets would continue, but also potentially lead to the involvement of other factions in larger and more complex operations," according to Shummary.
Israel and Iran have been carrying out airstrikes on each other's territory since the conflict in the Gaza Strip erupted in October 2023. Recently, on October 26, Israel launched a fierce airstrike against Iran in retaliation for Tehran launching approximately 180 missiles toward Tel Aviv on October 1.
