An intelligence leak has revealed that Israel is using an advanced long-range UAV to conduct reconnaissance over the skies of Iran and even the Middle East.

On October 25, Army Recognition, citing Middle East Eye, reported that an intelligence leak revealed that Israel is using an advanced long-range unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to monitor Iran, signaling the country's high level of preparation for potential attack scenarios on strategic targets in Iran.

The leaked information, taken from two US intelligence documents, now confirmed by the Pentagon as accurate, shows the scale and scope of Israel's UAV strategy in the Middle East.

According to documents from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the intelligence was shared on the Middle East Spectator Telegram channel last week, revealing military escalations with details of missile positioning and aircraft exercises targeting Iran. Specifically, the US had planned to share this intelligence with the UK, but the leak occurred before any sensitive data was passed to British authorities.

A notable point in this leak is the appearance of the RA-01, an Israeli stealth UAV that has never been made public before. The documents describe the UAV’s operations at Ramon Airport in Israel from October 15-16, showing Israel’s readiness and ability to conduct covert surveillance operations over Iranian territory as well as the entire Middle East region.

Israel has long established itself as a leader in UAV technology with advanced drones capable of performing a wide range of complex missions, from intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance to tactical strikes. A typical example is the IAI Eitan (Heron TP) – a strategic UAV that can fly continuously for more than 30 hours. Equipped with satellite communications and infrared sensors, the Eitan is capable of supporting high-altitude reconnaissance missions, allowing Israel to conduct surveillance operations in remote areas such as Iran.

In addition, the Hermes UAV line, developed by Elbit Systems, includes two versions, the Hermes 450 and the Hermes 900, with outstanding endurance. The Hermes 900, with its ability to operate continuously for up to 36 hours, is well suited for long-term intelligence and support missions. The flexibility in the Hermes payload configuration allows it to be adapted to complex missions. In particular, the Hermes 450 has proven its value in highly conflict-prone areas such as Gaza and Lebanon, playing a vital role in providing battlefield intelligence.

Among Israel’s other multi-role UAVs, the IAI Shoval (Heron 1) is highly regarded for its optimized design for missions requiring low noise and stealthy observation capabilities, making it well suited for urban surveillance operations. In particular, this UAV with its minimal acoustic signature supports covert surveillance operations in sensitive and dense urban environments. In addition, Israel also deploys tactical UAVs such as the Skylark, primarily for ground intelligence, and the “kamikaze” Orbiter UAV – a munition designed to self-destruct on impact, helping to eliminate strategic targets quickly and effectively.
