The partnership between Riot Games and Prime Gaming will end in March 2024. This decision was confirmed by Riot Games in mid-December with a statement that Prime Gaming had chosen "not to renew the promotion".
League of Legends and Prime Gaming are about to "break up" next year
Players who have already unlocked rewards through Prime Gaming can rest assured that their rewards will remain on their accounts. Anna Donlon, Riot Games' senior vice president and head of product for VALORANT, assured that they are looking into other ways to reward players.
The long-standing partnership benefits both VALORANT and League of Legends players, offering a variety of in-game items such as weapons, player cards, skins, and other exciting items.
It’s important to note that ending this partnership doesn’t mean these items are gone forever. The partnership was originally supposed to end at the end of 2022, but was extended to February 16, 2023 to accommodate final requests for the chests containing the rewards. Further negotiations have resulted in more chests and smaller items being released throughout 2023.
Riot Games publicly ending the current deal could be a strategic move to gauge public reaction and potentially influence Prime Gaming’s decision. With a few months left until the deal expires, there’s still a chance the two sides could return to the negotiating table. This situation illustrates the dynamic nature of partnerships in the gaming industry and how they can greatly impact the player experience.
