Real Madrid TV believes there is something fishy about VAR technology in Endrick's offside situation. |
In round 32 of La Liga, Real Madrid had a dramatic victory, when Federico Valverde launched a classy volley in the 3rd minute of injury time, helping "Los Blancos" continue to follow Barcelona in the La Liga championship race. It is worth mentioning that Real would not have struggled so much if the controversial refereeing decisions in the match against Bilbao had been in their favor.
The club's official television channel, Real Madrid TV, analysed two incidents: Vinicius Jr's goal was ruled out due to an offside call from Endrick and Jude Bellingham was fouled in the penalty area. Real Madrid TV said Endrick's offside, which was determined by just a few centimetres of the tip of his boot, was questionable.
They questioned the accuracy of the selected frame in the semi-automatic offside system: “Where is the ball in this system? It doesn’t appear, everything is unclear and they tell us to trust it. How can we trust Clos Gómez’s system and Mediapro’s production, when we see the same problems every week? Trusting this VAR is impossible.”
Real Madrid TV called this a “disaster” in the management of the match, a “mockery for football fans, especially Real Madrid fans”. Real Madrid TV strongly criticized the CTA led by referee Medina Cantalejo, saying that the “black shirts” at the tournament were not qualified to practice but were still respected.
The channel even mentioned that no Spanish referees were invited by FIFA to participate in the Club World Cup, questioning their competence or transparency: “We don’t know if they are incompetent or suspect, but this is a real disgrace.”
Valverde scored the only goal for Real Madrid against Bilbao. |
Regarding the Bellingham incident, Real Madrid TV confirmed that the collision with Athletic Bilbao's Unai Núñez was clear enough for VAR to ask referee Martínez Munuera to review it. They sarcastically said that the referees seemed to be working in a "new football", not the sport that the whole world still plays.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti also mentioned this in a press conference after the match, arguing that similar situations are often blown out of proportion to Real Madrid.
“If Camavinga’s tackle a few rounds ago, when the ball was no longer in play, was considered a penalty, why wasn’t Bellingham’s? Martínez Munuera cost Real Madrid the title many years ago, and now he’s almost done it again,” Real Madrid TV said indignantly.
Notably, Real Madrid TV also publicly replayed images from Barcelona's victory over Celta Vigo on April 19, a rare move. They suspected that the referees were biased towards Barca, helping the team win against Celta Vigo in a difficult situation.
Real Madrid TV pointed out that there were at least two situations where Barca benefited from the referee, including Raphinha not being sent off for rough handling of Iago Aspas, and the controversial penalty at the end of the match after Dani Olmo was fouled.
Valverde's masterpiece helped Real Madrid win 3 points. In the early morning of April 21, Valverde launched a classy volley in the 3rd minute of extra time, helping "Los Blancos" defeat Athletic Bilbao 1-0.
