More than 2.85 million subscribers have standardized subscriber information according to regulations.
Mr. Nguyen Phong Nha, Deputy Director of the Department of Telecommunications (Ministry of Information and Communications), said that as of May 15, 2023, with the participation of management agencies, telecommunications enterprises and media agencies, the standardization of subscriber information has been seriously implemented.
Over the past 2 months, out of a total of 3.84 million subscribers that businesses, after reviewing and comparing with the national population database, determined needed to be notified via text message, more than 2.85 million subscribers (accounting for 74.21% of subscribers required to be standardized) standardized their personal information.
However, there are still more than 985,000 SIMs (accounting for about 25.79%) that have not been standardized as announced, have had their contracts terminated, telecommunications services terminated, and their subscriber numbers revoked. With these revoked numbers, telecommunications businesses will collect them into their number warehouses and provide them to other individuals and organizations in need according to regulations.
The representative of the Telecommunications Department said that service users have realized that using a phone number with full and accurate information registered with their own information is very important, when the phone has become an indispensable means in daily life. In addition, there has been the participation and synchronous implementation of businesses in deploying notification measures (texting, calling, sending employees to meet directly with each subscriber group) and implementing standardization through many forms such as in person, online. At the same time, Mr. Nguyen Phong Nha emphasized that in this information standardization, there is support and consensus from press and media agencies.
In the coming time, in addition to directing and urging telecommunications enterprises to continue to cross-check with the national population database and standardize subscriber information, the Ministry of Information and Communications will focus on large-scale inspection of subscriber information management of mobile telecommunications enterprises.
Mr. Nguyen Phong Nha affirmed: "The Ministry of Information and Communications will strictly handle violations and focus on checking the group of subscribers who are using and owning 10 or more SIMs. The Telecommunications Department hopes that service users will raise awareness, not use or assist in the purchase and sale of SIMs that are not in accordance with regulations on the market, and when discovering that the mobile SIM they are using has information that is not consistent with their own information (by sending a completely free message TTTB to 1414), they should proactively contact the customer care number of the mobile business to update, in order to ensure their own rights and contribute to limiting the situation of spam messages and spam calls".
Previously, the Ministry of Information and Communications said that there was a situation where agents hired students and freelance workers to register many SIM cards and then sold them on the market. However, when these SIM cards were checked against the national database of residents, the personal information was still correct, but they were not used by the owner. Bad guys could buy these SIM cards to make spam calls, scam calls... causing consequences for society.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuc, Director of the Department of Telecommunications, said that the Department will direct mobile telecommunications businesses to continue to standardize subscriber information, handle the situation of SIM cards with incorrect subscriber information, also known as junk SIM cards. At the same time, prevent and handle violations related to advertising calls to phone numbers on the no-advertisement list.
In addition, the Telecommunications Department will deploy systems to prevent and block spam calls, applying artificial intelligence technology, big data and advanced technology solutions. The authorities will provide users with tools to proactively prevent them from their terminal devices.
