Review of preparations for the Lao Bao Cross-Border Economic and Trade Zone Workshop

This morning, March 5, the Working Group of Quang Tri province coordinated with the two provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan (Laos) to study mechanisms and policies for economic and social cooperation (referred to as Working Group 626) to hold a meeting to evaluate the results of activities in 2023 and the directions and tasks in 2024 of the Working Group; review the preparation work for the Workshop on the Lao Bao - Densavan Joint Cross-Border Economic and Trade Zone. Reporting at the meeting, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department Ho Dai Nam said that in 2023, the working group completed 3 main groups of tasks: Completing the Lao Bao - Densavan Cross-Border Economic and Trade Zone Project, implementing the Agreement Document of the two Governments of Vietnam and Laos. Supporting Lao provinces in planning and adjusting the planning of the Lao Bao Special Economic and Trade Zone and the Densavan Border Trade Zone. Cooperating with CTS Consulting Company - USA in building planning orientations and operating mechanisms for the duty-free zone, signing a memorandum of understanding with Phu Dien Trading Joint Stock Company on funding to implement a number of tasks of the Working Group.

In 2024, for the pilot task of building the Lao Bao - Densavan Cross-Border Economic and Trade Zone, the Working Group proposed 7 key contents, in which, in the immediate future, it will focus on coordinating with the Government Office and the Ministry of Planning and Investment to successfully organize a working session chaired by the Government Office to give opinions on the policy of building the Agreement "Piloting the construction of the Lao Bao - Densavan Cross-Border Economic and Trade Zone".

Carefully prepare to successfully organize the Workshop "Lao Bao - Densavan Cross-Border Economic Zone: From Idea to Reality". Direct the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board to coordinate with the Savannakhet Provincial Economic Zone Management Board to soon complete the (adjusted) planning as a basis for attracting and implementing investment projects in the Densavan Border Trade Zone....

The working group also proposed directions for effectively implementing the task of coordinating the development of economic and social plans for the provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan, supporting the adjustment of the planning of the Densavan Border Trade Zone, coordinating and supporting the development of the La Lay Economic Zone Project (Laos side)...

The report on the implementation of the Lao Bao - Densavan Cross-Border Economic Zone Workshop by the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center said that up to this point, the preparation work has been basically completed according to the set schedule regarding the invited members, workshop content, logistics, and venue. The Center also proposed a number of contents related to reception, logistics, and approval of the workshop's budget. Members of Working Group 626 participated in giving comments to complete the plan to successfully organize the workshop.

Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department Ho Dai Nam, Deputy Head of Working Group 626, requested members to review the assigned tasks and complete the reports and presentations of the units presented at the workshop. Review the overall work program of the morning and afternoon sessions to ensure it is concise and reasonable.

Concluding the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong emphasized that the Lao Bao - Densavan Cross-Border Economic Zone Workshop was organized on an international scale, with the participation of more than 200 delegates. Therefore, the preparation work must be thorough and thorough in all stages, and the contents must be reviewed to ensure the workshop is of good quality.

At the same time, acknowledge and appreciate the initiative of the working group members in preparing the contents and tasks related to organizing the workshop. Note that the working group members must pay attention to summarizing the opinions of the delegates participating in the workshop as well as the comments contributed when the delegates participated in the field survey in the morning working session.

Requesting departments, branches, localities and units to coordinate closely according to their assigned functions and tasks to ensure the successful organization of the workshop. Pay attention to the transportation and accommodation arrangements for delegates, creating favorable conditions for customs clearance procedures for delegates from other countries participating in the workshop.

Regarding the key tasks set out by Task Force 626 in 2024, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee basically agreed and requested the task force members to continue to uphold their responsibilities to effectively carry out the tasks.
