Traffic safety situation is complicated
In recent times, the authorities and localities have launched many peak periods to inspect and handle violations of alcohol concentration, overloaded vehicles, oversized vehicles, vehicles driving in the wrong lane, and illegal overtaking; at the same time, mobilizing forces, technical means, and expertise to increase patrols and control on key routes and areas. Sectors, mass organizations, authorities at all levels, agencies, and units regularly coordinate to propagate, disseminate, andeducate the law on traffic safety and order widely to all classes of people. The work of organizing traffic control and preventing congestion at intersections and areas with high vehicle density is of regular concern to the authorities.

In 2024, the province had 423 traffic accidents, killing 224 people, injuring 281 people, and causing estimated property damage of about 3.7 billion VND. Compared to 2023, there were 63 more cases, 30 fewer deaths, and 125 more injuries. Thanks to the promotion and handling of traffic accidents involving alcohol concentration in 2024, there were 4 fewer cases, 28 fewer deaths compared to 2023. However, the traffic accident situation in the first 3 months of 2025 was complicated with 109 cases, killing 59 people, injuring 83 people, including 1 particularly serious case that killed 3 people in Nha Trang City.
Mr. Chu Van An - Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, said that the traffic safety situation in the province is still complicated. In 2024, although the number of deaths due to traffic accidents decreased, the number of cases increased by more than 17%, the number of injured people increased by more than 80% compared to 2023. Traffic accidents mainly occurred on inner-city routes (162 cases) and national highways (149 cases). The investigation into the causes of traffic accidents is still prolonged, causing difficulties in assessing and analyzing the causes in order to promptly propose solutions to strengthen traffic safety and control traffic accidents. The management of road safety corridors still has many shortcomings; the situation of encroachment and re-encroachment of road safety corridors has not been completely resolved, posing potential risks of causing traffic insecurity and congestion.
Efforts to reduce all three criteria by 5 to 10%
According to the assessment of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, currently, the traffic infrastructure has not met the speed of socio -economic development, as well as the speed of development of means of transport, especially private cars and large cars for tourism. The traffic safety database is not synchronized and lacks connectivity. The application of science and technology in the field of transport is still limited, leading to difficulties in traffic management, regulation, transport operation, monitoring, detection and handling of violations. Currently, the province has not yet implemented cold penalties in handling administrative violations of order and traffic safety. In addition, the situation of underage students driving motorbikes but using motorbikes over 50cm³ is quite common, increasing the risk of traffic accidents.
At the recent conference on implementing the work of ensuring traffic safety and order in 2025, Mr. Le Huu Hoang - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee emphasized that in order to reduce traffic accidents by 5 to 10% on all 3 criteria and effectively implement the work of ensuring traffic safety and order in 2025, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, departments, branches and localities need to synchronously and effectively implement the theme of 2025 "Safe journey, creating the future" suitable for each locality, agency and unit with the goal of "Human life is above all". In addition to promoting propaganda and mobilizing people to voluntarily comply with the law on traffic safety and order, units and localities need to promptly overcome "black spots", potential traffic accident risk points and unreasonable traffic organization; Continue to resolutely control and handle drivers with alcohol levels, creating positive changes, moving towards forming a culture of "If you drink alcohol, beer - do not drive".
Along with that, units and localities need to supplement and allocate funds to handle locations at risk of traffic accidents, increase lighting to ensure visibility at intersections, crossroads, and curves. Functional forces must increase patrols and controls on key routes, such as: National Highway 1, National Highway 26, National Highway 27C, branch roads to and from expressways... to detect and strictly handle violations, contributing to limiting traffic accidents.
